Mahindra University in Hyderabad invites applications for full-time faculty positions in Computer Science and Engineering, affiliated with the Center for AI and Supercomputing. We seek researchers with strong publication records and a commitment to teaching at UG, PG and doctoral levels, across nine research groups.
Candidates at all ranks (Assistant, Associate, Professor) are encouraged to apply, with opportunities to lead groups in areas from AI, NLP, and HPC to security and data systems.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Mahindra University invites applications for full-time faculty positions at all ranks, in association with the university’s Center for AI and Supercomputing. We are building depth in nine research groups that span the foundations of computing, intelligent systems, and their applications to problems of societal and industrial importance. We seek colleagues with a strong research record, a clear and independent research agenda, and a commitment to excellent teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Candidates whose work bridges two or more groups are especially encouraged to apply. Faculty hired through this call will be affiliated with the Center for AI and Supercomputing and are expected to contribute to its research programmes, alongside their teaching in the department.
A new group applying evolutionary computation and reinforcement learning to mobility systems. Areas of interest include traffic signal control and network optimisation, multi-agent and safe RL for autonomous and connected vehicles, fleet routing and logistics, electric vehicle charging and energy management, demand forecasting, and simulation and digital twins of urban transport. We seek candidates who can work with real-world data and build partnerships with industry and public agencies.
Research on large and small language models and multimodal foundation models. Areas include efficient training and inference, optimisation of small language models (distillation, quantisation, pruning, parameter-efficient fine-tuning), retrieval-augmented and agentic systems, evaluation and benchmarking, low-resource and Indian-language NLP, speech, and generative models for vision and code. Experience with large-scale experimentation and open-source contributions is valued.
Research on how reliable soft-ware is built in an era of AI-assisted development. Areas include program analysis, testing and repair, AI for software engineering, design and verification of LLM-based agents and multi-agent systems, specification and model checking, theorem proving, program synthesis, and assurance of safety-critical and learning-enabled systems.
Both theoretical and applied work is welcome. Areas include post-quantum and lattice-based cryptography, zero-knowledge proofs, secure multi-party computation, homomorphic encryption, privacy-enhancing technologies, systems, network and hardware security, blockchain protocols, and the security and privacy of machine learning systems.
Research on AI systems that are fair, transparent, accountable, and usable. Areas include fairness and bias auditing, explainability and interpretability, AI safety and alignment, privacy and governance, human–AI collaboration, user-centred and inclusive design, accessibility, and empirical studies of technology in the Indian and Global South context. Interdisciplinary backgrounds (design, social sciences, law, policy) combined with computing are welcome.
Research on data management systems and their foundations. Areas include query processing and optimisation, transaction processing, distributed and cloud-native data systems, vector and graph databases, learned indexes and ML for systems, data systems for ML and LLM workloads, stream processing, data integration and quality, and large-scale analytics.
Research in theoretical computer science and the mathematical foundations of data science. Areas include computational complexity, approximation, randomised, parameterised, streaming and sublinear algorithms, computational and statistical learning theory, online learning, optimisation, high-dimensional statistics, and the theory of deep learning.
Research at the interface of computer science, economics, and operations research. Areas include algorithmic game theory, mechanism and auction design, computational social choice, fair division, matching markets, multi-agent learning, and applications to online platforms, networks, pricing, security, and public policy.
Research on the design and use of large-scale and emerging computing platforms. Areas include parallel and distributed algorithms, GPU and accelerator computing, performance engineering, systems and compilers for large-scale AI training and inference, scientific computing and simulation, quantum algorithms and complexity, quantum error correction, quantum software and compilation, quantum machine learning, and hybrid quantum–classical workflows on HPC systems.
A Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related discipline, with an outstanding academic record. Postdoctoral or industry research experience is desirable, and is expected for appointments at senior ranks.
Evidence of high-quality research through publications in leading conferences and journals of the candidate’s area, and the potential (or, for senior ranks, a record) of attracting sponsored research funding and supervising Ph.D. students.
Ability and enthusiasm to teach core computer science courses as well as advanced electives in the candidate’s area, and to develop new courses and laboratories.
Willingness to collaborate across groups and with industry, and to contribute to the academic life and governance of the department and the university.
For Associate Professor and Professor positions: demonstrated leadership in building research groups, securing external funding, and mentoring junior colleagues and doctoral students.
