Job summary

Durafon Technologies seeks a capable Structural Steel Fabrication Lead to manage end-to-end project execution from GFC release to dispatch. You will review drawings, plan material, and coordinate with EPC clients and third-party inspectors while driving shop output and cost control.

The role requires 6–12 years in heavy fabrication, strong reading of Tekla/StaadPro outputs, and proficiency in MS Project/Primavera with MS Excel for tracking. Based at Bhilai, travel to client sites is expected.

Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech (Mechanical/Civil/Production) or Diploma with strong site exposure.
• 6–12 years in structural steel fabrication — heavy fabrication shop, PEB or EPC fabrication vendor.
• Hands-on with fabrication drawings, BOM/MTO extraction and shop-floor sequencing; able to read and check Tekla/StaadPro outputs.
• Working knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, SAW), fit-up tolerances, blasting and painting systems.
• Proficient in MS Project/Primavera and Excel-based production and cost tracking.
• Experience handling contract manpower on per-MT rates and controlling conversion cost.
• Willing to be based at Bhilai/Durg, Chhattisgarh, with travel to client sites.
• Exposure to export/international code projects (AISC, EN 1090) is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end execution of structural steel fabrication projects from GFC drawing release to final dispatch and site handover.
• Review GFC/shop drawings and BOMs, raise RFIs with the client's design team, and freeze fabrication drawings before shop release.
• Prepare and maintain project schedules (L2/L3), sequencing cutting, fit-up, welding, blasting, painting and dispatch against client milestone dates.
• Plan raw material — issue steel indents against BOM, track plate/section availability, control nesting yield and monitor scrap percentage.
• Drive daily shop output through the shop in-charge and per-MT manpower contractors; hold daily production meetings and re-plan against slippage.
• Enforce QA/QC in line with IS 800, IS 2062, AWS D1.1 / IS 9595 — WPS/PQR compliance, welder qualification, dimensional checks, DFT and NDT (UT/MPT) clearance before dispatch.
• Coordinate third-party inspection (TPI) and client inspection calls; close NCRs and punch points.
• Manage project commercials — MTO vs actual consumption, conversion cost per MT, RA bill preparation, variation/extra claims and receivables follow-up.
• Interface with EPC clients (L&T, JSW/JSSL and similar), consultants and site erection teams for dispatch clearance, marking, packing lists and erection support.
• Report weekly on physical progress, MT dispatched, cost vs budget and risk items to management.
