Job summary

PeopleStrong is seeking a Design Lead (Electrical) to drive the electrical design and engineering for Pooling Substations in large-scale renewable projects, including PV arrays and BESS systems. You will lead SLDs, schematics, protection philosophies, and substation layouts while coordinating with civil, SCADA, BESS, solar and grid teams.

The role requires 10–12 years of PV/BESS/substation experience and a BE/BTech in Electrical Engineering.

Qualifications

• BE/BTech in Electrical or Electrical & Electronics Engineering
• 10–12 years of experience predominantly in PV/BESS plant engineering and substations with leading contractors

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design and engineering of Pooling Substations for renewable energy projects.
• Develop and review Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), electrical schematics, protection philosophies and substation layouts.
• Lead engineering for HV/MV systems, including transformers, GIS/AIS switchgear, busbars, CTs, PTs/CVTs, isolators, circuit breakers and associated equipment.
• Review and approve load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, earthing and other electrical studies.
• Develop and review protection & control philosophies, relay settings and associated engineering documents.
• Coordinate grid interconnection requirements and ensure compliance with utility/grid codes and applicable standards.
• Review technical specifications, datasheets and equipment requisitions for major electrical equipment.
• Coordinate with Civil, Structural, SCADA, Protection & Control, Telecom, BESS, Solar and Grid teams to ensure integrated design.
• Review engineering deliverables prepared by internal teams and engineering consultants.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, utilities and equipment vendors on technical matters and design clarifications.
• Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, HAZOP/HV design reviews and client meetings as required.
• Ensure engineering deliverables are completed as per project schedule, quality standards and contractual requirements.
• Identify design risks, resolve technical issues and provide practical engineering solutions.
• Support procurement and construction teams with technical clarifications and engineering support.
• Review vendor drawings and documents and ensure compliance with approved design and project specifications.
• Support FAT, SAT, commissioning and energization activities, where required.
• Ensure adherence to IEC/IEEE standards, utility specifications, grid codes and project-specific requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to electrical engineers and designers.

Job Description

Design Lead (Electrical) – PSS will lead the electrical design and engineering activities for Pooling Substations (PSS) associated with large-scale renewable energy projects, including Solar PV, BESS and Wind projects. The role will be responsible for providing technical leadership across the complete design lifecycle, ensuring that designs are technically sound, compliant with applicable standards and grid requirements, and delivered in line with project schedules, quality requirements and client specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Expertise :

• The Design Lead (Electrical) – PSS shall have overall expertise in both primary engineering & secondary engineering for substation projects. The Manager is required to have thorough
• understanding in design aspects of GIS /AIS Substations up to 500 KV. Worked experience in PV / BESS plant engineering AIS sub station will be preferable.
• He is required to be proficient in selection of equipment such as Power Transformers, Reactors, Circuit Breakers, Disconnectors, Instrument Transformer. He shall be well versed in Substation Primary and Secondary Design including Earthing, Lighting, Lightning Protection, Cabling etc, interfaces between Civil, MEP & Instrumentation and Secondary engineering activities like Schemes, Wiring Diagrams, SCADA & Control System.
• The Design Lead (Electrical) – PSS he market conditions for vendor engineering.
• The Design Lead (Electrical) – PSS is required to understand and interpret the contractual technical requirements and facilitate the Project Teams as and when required. The Engineering Manager – Substation (Electrical) shall have good interviewing skills.

Qualification & Experience :

• B.E. / B. Tech. in Electrical / Electrical & Electronics Engineering
• 10 - 12 years (Must have experience predominantly with professional PV plant , BESS plants, Substation with leading contractors)
