Job summary

GoCharting in Chennai seeks an Engineering Manager for Client Engineering to lead the team building the real-time web trading terminal, website, and mobile app, while maintaining QA discipline. GoCharting is a web-native charting and trading workflow platform with institutional-grade orderflow and DOM tools — footprint/cluster charts, volume/market profile, cumulative delta, imbalance charts, DOM trading. We are the only platform that delivers these capabilities fully on the web. Comparable to TradingView for general charting, but differentiated as the leader in the professional orderflow niche. PE-acquired and funded in 2025, profitable, 3M+ registered traders globally, with a mandate to scale 10x over 4 years.

The Role

This is our first dedicated Engineering Manager for Client Engineering — the team that builds everything our traders touch: the real-time web trading terminal, the mobile app, the website and product surfaces, and the QA function that keeps them honest. The team has grown past the point where founder-led management works; engineers today are strong, but the management layer — onboarding, goal-setting, performance, delivery discipline — doesn’t exist yet. You will build it.

You will be a player-coach, not a pure people manager: roughly half your time managing people and delivery, half staying technical — reviewing code, setting engineering standards, and unblocking the team. You'll own the full people loop (onboarding through performance evaluation), the delivery workflow across three product surfaces plus QA, and the engineering process that a scaling team needs: code review discipline, documentation, and rigorous verification of AI-assisted code. In year one, success looks like a team that onboards new engineers in days not weeks, where every engineer knows exactly what you're measured on, that ships predictably against the roadmap, and whose output quality is visibly rising — with the CEO fully out of day-to-day team management.

What you’ll do

• Own people management end-to-end — onboarding and 30-60-90 plans, offboarding, training and growth plans, KPI-setting and performance evaluation, regular 1-on-1s for every engineer on the team
• Own delivery and workflow execution — sprint/ticket discipline, priorities, and predictable shipping across the web trading terminal, the website/product monorepo, the mobile app, and QA
• Build the engineering process from scratch — code review discipline, TypeScript and coding standards, onboarding/architecture documentation, and a mandatory verification standard for AI-assisted code before it ships
• Manage cross-team dependencies — API contracts, SDK branch/release discipline, and communication with the backend/Core Platform team so client work never stalls on avoidable misses
• Hire and grow the team — run the interview loop for open Client Engineering positions and scale the team from ~6 toward 10+, including remote international members alongside the Chennai core
• Stay technical (~30-50%) — review code credibly across a canvas-driven real-time React terminal, a modern React monorepo, and a React Native app; make architecture calls with the ICs; unblock hard problems yourself when needed

What we’re looking for

Must-haves:

• 3-5+ years of engineering management of a team of 8+ engineers, with full people-management ownership — you've personally run onboarding, performance reviews, promotions, hiring, and exits, ideally through a scaling phase
• 8-12+ years total in software engineering, with a strong React/TypeScript background — you can review a complex frontend PR credibly and the team respects your technical judgement
• Shipped complex, data-dense or real-time products — you know what "fast and correct under live data" takes, in any domain
• Built engineering process from scratch — onboarding documentation, performance frameworks, code standards, review discipline — not just operated processes someone else built
• Player-coach by preference — you want to stay technical, not escape into pure management
• In-person in our Chennai office

Nice-to-haves:

• Trading, fintech, brokerage, or market-data domain — a strong plus; you'd ramp on our product in weeks, not quarters
• React Native / mobile delivery including app-store release management
• QA / test-automation ownership — you've managed or built a QA function, not just worked alongside one
• Canvas/WebGL/WebSocket-heavy UIs — the terminal is a sophisticated real-time rendering surface
• Managing distributed / international teams across timezones
