About the Role
The Vendor Development & Application Engineer will be responsible for developing and managing a reliable, competitive and technically capable supplier base.
The position involves supplier identification, vendor qualification, supplier capability assessment, cost optimization, quality improvement, supplier performance management and delivery coordination. The candidate will also work closely with Engineering, Procurement, Quality, Production and Planning teams.
The role additionally provides application engineering support for product selection, customer‑specific requirements, tool and workholding solutions, gripping technology and industrial automation applications.
Key Responsibilities
1. Vendor Development & Supplier Management
- Identify and evaluate suppliers for precision machined components, fabricated parts, assemblies, bought‑out items and automation‑related products.
- Develop alternate suppliers to reduce supply‑chain risks.
- Assess supplier capabilities, manufacturing processes, production capacity, technology and quality systems.
- Evaluate supplier infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities.
- Lead supplier qualification, onboarding and approval activities.
- Develop a technically and commercially competitive supplier base.
Supplier Performance Management
- Establish and monitor supplier KPIs covering:
- Quality
- Cost
- Delivery
- Service
- Responsiveness
- Conduct periodic supplier performance reviews.
- Develop and implement supplier improvement plans.
- Drive improvements in supplier productivity, manufacturing capability and process reliability.
- Build long‑term professional relationships with strategic suppliers.
2. Technical & Manufacturing Coordination
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T and technical requirements with suppliers.
- Ensure suppliers understand manufacturing tolerances, material specifications and quality requirements.
- Evaluate manufacturing feasibility of components.
- Support suppliers in resolving technical and manufacturing issues.
- Coordinate prototype development and sample approvals.
- Support First Article Inspection (FAI) and process validation.
- Work with Engineering and Quality teams to ensure supplier readiness for production.
Knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, machining and supplier capability assessment is particularly relevant to vendor‑development roles in Bengaluru's precision manufacturing ecosystem.
3. Cost Optimization & Commercial Support
- Analyze supplier quotations and commercial proposals.
- Evaluate supplier pricing based on technical specifications and manufacturing processes.
- Participate in supplier negotiations.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, localization and value engineering.
- Support annual cost‑reduction initiatives.
- Identify alternate manufacturing processes and suppliers where commercially appropriate.
- Work with suppliers to improve productivity and reduce overall product costs.
4. Supplier Quality & Compliance
- Coordinate with Quality teams to resolve supplier quality issues.
- Participate in supplier audits and capability assessments.
- Monitor supplier compliance with quality requirements.
- Drive CAPA, RCA and corrective‑action activities.
- Follow up with suppliers for effective closure of quality issues.
- Support implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor supplier process capability and quality performance.

- Help ensure uninterrupted availability of required materials and components.
- Support inventory optimization through effective supplier coordination.
- Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) and supplier‑readiness activities.
- Track supplier development activities and production‑readiness milestones.
6. Supplier Relationship Management
- Develop strong professional relationships with existing and potential suppliers.
- Conduct supplier visits and capability assessments.
- Review supplier operations and identify improvement opportunities.
- Discuss quality, cost, delivery and capacity issues with suppliers.
- Resolve technical and commercial supplier issues in coordination with internal stakeholders.
- Maintain supplier accountability while developing long‑term partnerships.
Secondary Responsibility – Application Engineering
The selected candidate will also provide technical support for application engineering activities.

Candidate Eligibility
We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline.
- 4–6 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in Vendor Development, Supplier Development, Vendor Quality, Strategic Sourcing, Manufacturing Engineering or Industrial Engineering.
- Manufacturing‑industry experience is preferred.
- Experience in precision machining, fabrication, pneumatics, automation or industrial products will be an advantage.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes.
- Good communication skills in English.
- Strong analytical and negotiation capabilities.
- Ability to coordinate with suppliers and multiple internal departments.
