Job summary

Jacobs in Bengaluru seeks an Electrical Design Engineer with 3+ years of experience to deliver primary design for AIS and GIS substations up to 400 kV. You will prepare SLDs, equipment layouts and detailed specs using ETAP, SKM, and CAD tools, coordinating with global teams and clients.

Responsibilities include concept through detail design, technical reviews, and ensuring timely delivery while maintaining quality and safety standards. Prioritize collaboration and stakeholder communication.

Qualifications

• BE/B Tech/ME/M Tech Electrical or equivalent.
• Minimum 3+ years in primary design for AIS & GIS substations up to 400 kV.
• Design (Concept, FEED, detail) of T&D systems for utilities.
• Proficient in ETAP and SKM software.
• Strong CAD skills: MicroStation, AutoCAD; basic Revit & 3D substation design.

Responsibilities

• Prepare technical deliverables: SLDs, cable schedules, interconnections, specs, and MTO.
• Create equipment layouts for outdoor switchyards and indoor substations.
• Coordinate with leads and cross-disciplinary teams to resolve design issues.
• Attend client meetings for technical clarifications and reviews.
• Ensure drawings meet quality standards and client timelines.

Here’s what you’ll need

About You

• BE/B Tech/ME/M Tech Electrical
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in primary design (AIS & GIS Substation experience up to 400kV is desirable.)
• Design (Concept, FEED, and detail design) of T & D systems up to 400kV – for Utility companies based on international standards – for Middle east, UK, Australia & US regions.
• Performs Primary Design activities viz. Key SLD’s, AC/DC SLD’s, cable schedules, interconnections schedules, Specifications, Bulk MTO etc.
• Applies broad practical knowledge to design layouts & produces – Equipment layouts for outdoor switchyard, indoor substation, trench/tray layouts, lighting, earthing & lightning protection layouts (Should be able to give technicians & should be able to review from technical/quality perspective.)
• Performs Equipment sizing calculations like Transformer, Generator, HV/LV cable, AC UPS, Battery, Capacitor banks, conductor sizing, fault level, indoor & outdoor illumination, earthing and lightning protection etc.
• Hands on experience on using ETAP & SKM software.
• Prepare technical specifications, data sheets for electrical equipment’s like transformers, DG sets, switchgear, UPS, Battery & Battery charger, Distribution boards etc.
• Vendor drawing review of all the electrical equipment’s & calculations.
• Technical Bid evaluation/documentation.
• Ability to carry out inter- disciplinary coordination.
• Resolve any design issues & coordinate effectively with leads
• Plan, schedule, conduct, and communicate work with team members all design aspects of the project.
• Attend client meetings for technical clarifications.
• Capable of working under challenging workload subject to change at short notice.
• Good communication & IT skills.
• Clear knowledge of work procedures, and ability to work independently.
• Delivering Drawings to desired quality standards and according to mutually agreed timelines with the client
