Job summary

HealthNet is hiring an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our Indianapolis/Bloomington, IN clinics. You will work under the dentist or clinical manager, performing restored teeth placement and finishing, coronal polishing, fluoride applications, radiographs, and charting.

You’ll travel between HealthNet locations as needed and support diverse patient populations with compassionate care. Requirements include a high school diploma, radiology coursework or an accredited program, DANB

Qualifications

  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of radiology course or accredited dental assisting program.
  • Maintain DANB certification and X-ray certification.
  • CPR/BLS certification required.
  • Coronal Polishing certification not required but appreciated.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare operatory and equipment for planned treatment.
  • Escort patients and assist during clinical care as directed and using Expanded Function tasks.
  • Place and finish dental restorations, coronal polish, and fluoride application.
  • Observe and document patient conditions for assessment.
  • Take x-rays and review patient health history.
  • Perform dental lab functions as assigned.
  • Assist with anesthesia/sedation monitoring as directed by dentist.
  • Maintain patient records and charts.

Job description

What you’ll do as an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) at HealthNet:

In addition to the job responsibilities of a Dental Assistant directed by the dentist or clinical manager, the Dental Assistant Expanded Function position performs placement and finishing of dental restorations such as fillings, sealants, and make temporary crowns and bridges.

  • Prepare the operatory and/or operating room work area with appropriate set up for treatment as planned by the dentist.
  • Escort patients to designated clinical area, completes intake assessment, and assists during clinical care as directed; including the use of Expanded Function task.
  • Perform placement and finishing of dental restorations, coronal polishing and/or application of fluoride.
  • Observe, document, and communicate patient conditions with providers for initial patient assessment.
  • Taking x-rays and reviewing the patient's health history.
  • Preform dental lab functions as assigned.
  • Preform airway management and observe patient physiological status during anesthesia/sedation procedures as directed by dentist.
  • Accurately complete and assist dentist in maintaining chart for patient records.
When you’ll work as an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) at HealthNet:
  • Full-Time
  • Mondays: 10am-7pm with lunch scheduled at 2-3pm
  • Tuesday - Fridays: 8am-5pm with lunch scheduled at 12-1pm

  • Currently not sponsoring work visa.
  • Requires High School Diploma.
  • Completion of radiology course or accredited dental assisting program.
  • Maintain a DANB certification.
  • Requires X-ray certification.
  • CPR/BLS certification.
  • Coronal Polishing certification not required but appreciated.
  • Detailed knowledge of different instruments, and knowledge of material requirements for each procedure.
  • 1-2 years of experience or formal training as a dental assistant.

  • Ability to life, push, and or pull equipment, light to moderately heavy weight is required.
Physical Requirement
  • Works primarily inside, in a normal dental office environment and hospital operatory setting.
  • Able to be involved in degrees of prolonged standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, and stooping; as well as abilities of repeated bending, stooping and squatting.
  • Able to lift, push, and/or pull equipment, light to moderately heavy weight up to 20-30 pounds is a necessary function of this position.
  • Must be able to position and move patients following safety standards.
  • Able to perform duties during periods of varied and/or prolonged work hours.
  • Will be exposed to all patient elements.
  • Must have good eyesight with or without correction (20/30).
  • Must be able to read, write, hear, and communicate effectively in the English language by both orally and written.
