Job description

The EDI Tech Lead / EDI Architect is responsible for defining, designing, and governing the endtoend architecture of the organizations EDI ecosystem. This role ensures that all B2B integrations across trading partners, applications, and middleware are scalable, secure, highperforming, and aligned with business and technology strategies.

As a senior technical authority, the EDI Tech Lead/Architect provides architectural direction for EDI platforms, mapping solutions, communication protocols, data flows, and integration patterns. The role guides development teams, supports partner onboarding, ensures compliance with industry standards (X12, EDIFACT), and optimizes performance across Axway to downstream applications.

Role & responsibilities:

• Define the endtoend EDI architecture (gateway, mapping, orchestration, APIs, security, observability) aligned to business goals and enterprise standards.
• Establish integration patterns (batch, realtime/API, eventdriven) and guidelines for when to use each.
• Maintain the EDI reference architecture, system context diagrams, and data lineage across upstream (partner applications) and downstream (UFS+/UWS).
• Plan the modernization roadmap (e.g., APIenablement, event streaming, reusability).
• Lead solution design reviews for new partner onboardings, new document types, and change requests.
• Approve mapping designs, transformation logic, errorhandling strategies, and fallback mechanisms.
• Define and enforce development standards (naming conventions, folder structures, reusable components etc.).
• Ensure designs consider NFRs: performance, scalability, reliability, resiliency, observability, and maintainability.
• Own gateway configuration standards: partner profiles, routing, security credentials (certificates/keys), protocols (AS2/SFTP/HTTPS/FTP).
• Ensure standards compliance (X12, EDIFACT), auditability, and adherence to regulatory or customer requirements (e.g., SOX/GDPR/HIPAA as applicable).
• Orchestrate message flows across Axway EDF DES UWS/UFS+ ensuring traceability.
• Approve canonical models, mapping, and transformation rules between systems.
• Resolve complex partner issues and represent the organization as the senior technical point of contact.
• Mentor EDI developers, QA, and analysts. Raise the bar on mapping quality, troubleshooting, and documentation.
• Build a reusable assets library (transforms, validation utilities, error handlers, test data generators).
• Own RCA quality for EDI incidents, drive corrective/preventive actions and pattern fixes.
• Measure and improve firstpass success, defect leakage, and partner onboarding cycle time.
• Translate business outcomes into architecture roadmaps, integration strategies, and modernization initiatives.
• Ensure EDI decisions support longterm business growth, customer commitments, and operational continuity.
• Provide expert guidance to business teams on EDI capabilities, limitations, and the impact of proposed changes.
• Participate in business workshops to shape requirements and ensure they are feasible, scalable, and compliant with EDI standards.
• Explain complex technical concepts in simple, businessfriendly language.
• Coordinate regularly with: Business Analysts, Operations, Customer/Partner Management and Support teams.
• Engage directly with external trading partners to understand their business processes, data expectations, and integration needs.
• Highlight architectural risks early and propose mitigation strategies with clear business consequences.

Skillset Required:

• Logistics and Freight forwarder, Supply Chain domain knowledge
• EDI Archtecture
• Any B2B Integration Tool (or) Axway B2Bi 2.x.x, Axway Mapping services [DML], Axway Sentinel and SQL
• Communication Protocols & Security: AS2, SFTP/FTP, HTTPS/REST/SOAP
• JSONtoEDI and EDItoJSON transformations.
• Strong SQL skills to query, validate, and analyze data from relational databases.
• Experience with Agile delivery frameworks (Scrum / SAFe) and tools such as Jira, Postman, and SNOW.

Technical Skill Set Required:

• Basic knowledge of EDI [X12, EDIFACT]
• Non-Standard formats [XML, CSV, Flat File]

Other Requirements:

• Strong understanding of freight forwarding operations, EDI [X12, EDIFACT, XML & JSON] format data exchanges.
• Willingness to understand the upstream and downstream applications used for EDI.
• Good experience with SQL skills for querying and analyzing data from databases.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools like Jira, SNOW and Postman.
• Demonstrates exceptional communication and collaboration skills, ensuring clarity, alignment, and strong partnerships across teams and stakeholders.

Shift Work / Travel Required:

General shift with overlap with US Time

Experience (Min ~ Max):

8 to10 years of experience as a Technical Lead/Architect in logistics or freight forwarding domain.

Education Required:

Bachelors Degree or equivalent; preferably in business administration or engineering/science
