Job summary

SYSTRA India is seeking an experienced Ecological Consultant for upcoming Renewable Energy projects in South Asia. The role centers on biodiversity monitoring, EMP implementation and on-site mitigation planning to ensure regulatory compliance.

You will lead GIS-based inventories, supervise vegetation and wildlife surveys, and coordinate with the National Ecologist to verify baselines, mitigation effectiveness and reporting. Proficiency in English is essential.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Ecology or related field.
• 8+ years in ecological safeguards monitoring and mitigation.
• Proficient in GIS mapping, vegetation sampling and wildlife surveys.
• Familiar with IUCN safeguards and ADB SPS 2009.
• Proficient in English.

Responsibilities

• Update flora and fauna inventories and map no-go zones.
• Monitor vegetation, water quality, birds, mammals; compare to feasibility findings.
• Supervise biodiversity mitigation activities per EMP.
• Guide Ecological Consultant (National) in EMP implementation.

We are seeking applications for the position of Ecological Consultant for upcoming Renewable Energy project in South Asia.

Missions/Main Duties

• Update the site-specific flora and fauna inventory prior to land clearing, identify sensitive habitats, threatened species as per the IUCN Red List, and ecological corridors, and map no-go zones for construction, especially core and buffer zones.
• Monitor changes in vegetation cover, surface water quality, bird and small mammal activity, and soil health, compare actual impacts against feasibility study stage assessment and recommend corrective actions if thresholds are exceeded.
• Supervise implementation of activities related to biodiversity management and other ecological aspects as a part of mitigation measures as covered in the EMP and additional ones based on the site conditions.
• Provide the overall guidance to the Ecological Consultant (National) in the implementation of EMP related to ecological mitigation measures.
• Work jointly with the Ecologist (National) in biodiversity baseline verification, monitoring, mitigation review, contractor compliance checks, ecological reporting and knowledge transfer, with particular attention to Bhutanese species, habitats, conservation requirements and local ecological conditions.

Profile/Skills

• Master’s degree in Ecology or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of cumulative professional experience in ecological safeguards monitoring, biodiversity conservation, and implementation of ecological mitigation measures.
• The Consultant shall be proficient in GIS mapping, vegetation sampling, and wildlife survey methods and be familiar with IUCN safeguards and ADB SPS 2009.
• The Consultant must be proficient in English.
