Job summary

As the Deputy Manager for Tractor Assembly within the K2 Project at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will oversee the seamless running of day-to-day operations across multiple assembly shifts at a large-scale manufacturing facility. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing all aspects of tractor assembly operations, ensuring optimal productivity, adherence to budget constraints, and compliance with quality and safety standards, including OHSAS 18001 requirements.
  • Implementing and monitoring Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities to enhance equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives focused on process optimisation, cost efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
  • Coordinating closely with cross-functional teams including sales, engineering, and quality assurance to align operational goals with broader business strategies.
  • Managing workforce planning, recruitment, training, and performance appraisals for the operations team to build a motivated and competent workforce.
  • Promoting a culture of safety, quality, and customer-centricity by enforcing strict compliance with safety protocols and advocating for zero-defect manufacturing practices.
  • Utilising system resources efficiently to meet production schedules and deliver on key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Overseeing stakeholder engagement, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration with internal and external partners to support production and business objectives.

This role requires not only effective management of operational aspects but also a strategic mindset to contribute to the scalability and innovation initiatives of the tractor assembly line, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Education Qualification

The successful candidate will hold relevant technical qualifications that provide a strong foundation for understanding manufacturing and mechanical processes. Required educational qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Mechanical Engineering, demonstrating proficiency in mechanical design, manufacturing processes, and engineering principles.
  • Alternatively, a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering combined with substantial industry experience will be considered.

Additional certifications or training in manufacturing best practices, quality management systems, or occupational health and safety will be considered an advantage to strengthen operational oversight and compliance capabilities.

Continuous professional development and a willingness to pursue advanced training relevant to modern manufacturing technologies and leadership will be highly valued.

General Experience

Applicants should possess a solid background in manufacturing operations, specifically within the automotive or heavy machinery industry, with a recommended experience range of 3 to 7 years. This experience should encompass:

  • Hands-on involvement in production operations and assembly line management, ideally within large-scale manufacturing facilities.
  • A proven track record of leading teams through multiple shifts, ensuring coordination and consistency across operations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in quality assurance, safety compliance (including OHSAS standards), and production efficiency improvements.
  • Experience in resource management including workforce scheduling, performance management, and development programs.
  • Exposure to Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) programs and operational excellence methodologies.
  • Effective collaboration within cross-functional teams, working alongside engineering, sales and business units to meet organisational objectives.

Experience working within the manufacturing or automobile sectors, particularly in tractor or heavy equipment assembly lines, is highly desirable to align with the specifics of the K2 Project.

Critical Experience

  • Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing operations with direct responsibility for managing tractor assembly or similar mechanical assembly lines.
  • Proven ability to implement and lead compliance initiatives related to quality standards and safety, ensuring adherence to OHSAS 18001 and environmental policies.
  • Strong background in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) strategies focused on enhancing equipment effectiveness and operational continuity.
  • Expertise in managing multi-shift operations, including scheduling, manpower allocation, and performance oversight, to achieve production targets.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in mentoring and developing teams to foster high performance and engagement.
  • Successful coordination and communication with multiple stakeholders including business partners, engineering teams, and sales departments to drive integrated operational improvements.
  • Experience in driving strategic initiatives aligned with business goals, including cost control, resource optimisation, and process innovation.
