Job summary

YRGMERF is seeking a Driver to support field staff and project activities across health facilities and communities. The role requires a valid commercial driving licence and at least two years of professional driving experience.

You will maintain the assigned vehicle, follow safety protocols, and keep logs. Regular travel to project sites and adherence to SOPs are essential, with a focus on reliability and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Valid commercial/professional driving licence appropriate for the vehicle assigned.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant professional driving experience; NGO/public health experience preferred.
• Good knowledge of local roads, routes, and traffic regulations.
• Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge and ability to identify issues.
• Ability to read and maintain basic vehicle logs.
• Basic English and local language communication; Hindi an advantage.
• Clean driving record with commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and timely transportation to project staff for field visits, meetings, trainings, and other official activities.
• Drive project vehicles responsibly and in accordance with traffic rules, road safety regulations, and organisational policies.
• Plan routes and travel schedules in coordination with the project team, considering field locations and timelines.
• Ensure the vehicle is clean, roadworthy, and maintained in good operating condition.
• Conduct routine checks of fuel, tyres, engine oil, coolant, brakes, lights, and other essential vehicle components.
• Report vehicle faults, accidents, breakdowns, or maintenance requirements promptly to the designated supervisor.
• Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, fuel records, service records, and other documents as required.
• Ensure that vehicle documents, including registration, insurance, pollution certificate, and driving licence, are valid and available.

In India, the TIFA project aims tostrengthen national health security through coordinated action acrossgovernment systems and community stakeholders. This approach is designed tobuild a resilient ecosystem capable of detecting, preventing, and responding toemerging infectious disease threats.

As part of this initiative, adecentralised community-based surveillance model will be implemented, alignedwith the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)’s Integrated HealthInformation Platform (IHIP) and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme(IDSP) framework. The model enables community platforms such as Self-HelpGroups (SHGs) and Mahila Arogya Samitis (MAS) to identify and report earlywarning signals using IHIP tools, thereby strengthening community ownership,improving early detection, and enabling timely public health response.

RoleOverview

TheDriver will support the project team by providing safe, reliable, and timelytransportation for staff and project-related activities. The role will involveregular travel to field locations, health facilities, communities, and otherproject sites as required. The Driver is expected to maintain the assignedvehicle in good working condition, follow road safety requirements, maintainnecessary vehicle records, and support the team during field movements.

• Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct whileinteracting with project staff, government officials, community members, andother stakeholders.
• Be available for travel to project locations and workschedules as required by project activities.
