Job description

Program Overview

PhD Program of the Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) is a research‑intensive doctoral program aimed at imparting high‑quality training in research. The program primarily focuses on training prospective scholars to excel in their chosen research areas through high‑quality publications and on grooming scholars to be highly skilled teachers.

Duration

Students are expected to complete the program within 5 years.

Eligibility

• A Master’s Degree or a Post Graduate Diploma in any discipline with at least 55% marks in both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
• Or a professional qualification such as CA, ICWA, CS with at least 50% marks and a B. Com/Degree with 55% marks.
• Or a 4‑year/8‑semester Bachelor’s degree (10+2+4 pattern) with at least 6.5 CGPA or equivalent.

Note: To apply for the Production and Operations Management area, a Graduation and/or Post Graduation in Science/Mathematics/Management/Engineering/Economics is mandatory.

Note: To apply for the Strategy area, a minimum of two years of post‑qualification full‑time work experience is mandatory.

The percentage of marks is calculated based on the practice of the respective University/Institution. In the case of grades/CGPA, conversion to percentage follows the procedure certified by the respective University/Institution. If no scheme exists, the equivalence is established by dividing the CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying by 100. Five percent marks relaxation is given to SC, ST, and PwD candidates.

Reservations

IIMV reserves seats for Indian nationals belonging to certain categories. The reservation percentages effective for PhD 2026 are:

• 15% for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates
• 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates
• 27% for Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to the "Non‑Creamy" layer (NC‑OBC)
• 5% for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) within each category
• 10% for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)

• CAT – valid for 2023, 2024, 2025

Application Fee

Applicants must pay a fee of Rs. 500/- while filling the application form. Candidates belonging to NC‑OBC, EWS, SC, ST, PwD, Women, and Transgender are exempted from paying the fee.

Interview & Selection

Selected candidates will be shortlisted and called for an interview. Offline interviews are scheduled in the third week of April 2026. Admission will be based on a combination of multiple parameters, including test scores, academic performance, and interview performance.

Orientation & Preparatory Program

Admitted candidates are required to attend an orientation and preparatory program scheduled during the last week of June 2026. Registration for the program will be in the last week of June 2026.

Stipend & Benefits

• Stipend: Rs. 37,000/- per month for the first two years, Rs. 42,000/- per month from the third year onwards.
• Contingency Grant: Rs. 1,30,000/- (for UGC‑sponsored students, a differential amount will be paid).
• HRA: paid at par with UGC norms.
• Accommodation: provided at Institute.
• Conference Grants: International conference grants up to Rs. 3,00,000/- and national conference grants up to Rs. 60,000/- are available for accepted papers, subject to prior approval.
• Publication Grants: Rs. 50,000/- per publication in FT 50, UT Dallas 24, or Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) – A*; Rs. 25,000/- per publication in ABDC – A.
• JRF Fellows receive a fellowship and HRA from UGC; additional support follows institutional policy.
