Job summary

GlaxoSmithKline seeks a Close and Controls Director to lead a regional/global finance controllership team, partnering with senior leadership to deliver accurate financial reporting and robust controls across entities.

The role combines operational excellence with strategic influence, driving transformation and value beyond traditional controllership. English fluency and extensive post‑qualification experience in similar settings are required.

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting, Economics or related field and/or MBA.
• Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) is an advantage.
• Extensive (18+ years) post qualification experience in managing teams of a sizeable organization and experience in Controllership.

Job Purpose

The Close and Controls Director (Regional / Global Teams) is accountable for leading a large Regional / Global Team finance controllership organization and act as a key partner to senior leadership, including Regional VP Finance, Finance Directors and other Finance/Tax functions stakeholders. The role is accountable for delivering accurate, compliant financial reporting and controls activities through a Controllership team covering GSK Commercial / Global and Corporate legal entities. The role combines operational excellence with strategic influence and drives transformation to deliver measurable business value beyond core controlling activities

Role & Responsibilities

• Directly accountable for the overall delivery of financial reporting, controls, risk management activities across GSK Regional and Global organizations, delivering clear insights to support senior stakeholders and drive business performance across Markets, Regions and Global entities.
• Oversight of an external third party strategic partner delivering the transactional side of financial reporting activities and controls.
• Overseeing end‑to‑end Close & Control activities, including month‑end / quarter close / year end activities, balance sheet reviews, internal / external audits including statutory requirements as well as any compliance review, support tax requirements as needed and ensures compliance with IFRS accounting principles and internal policies.
• Leading a sizeable organization including Controllers & teams responsible for financial activities of Commercial Markets / Global entities ensuring high performance, engagement and strong succession planning.
• Develops and maintains a robust performance framework to establish a high-performance culture within the team.
• Delivers measurable business value beyond controlling, including cost optimization, cash delivery and performance insights
• Works closely and partner with other parts of the C&C, GFS and broader Finance organization.
• Feed into Global Finance strategy at global level, identifying areas that require GPO intervention (Process redesign and / or technology intervention, RPA opportunities, etc), Service Management intervention (e.g. Capabilities, BPO arrangements), Tech challenges, etc
• Builds strong cross-functional and global stakeholder relationships across business, finance and external partners.
• Drivers projects and continuous improvements in line with Global Finance Services (GFS) and Finance strategy.

Requirements

• Degree in Accounting, Economics or related field and/or MBA
• Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) is an advantage.
• Extensive (18+ years) post qualification experience in managing teams of a sizeable organization and experience in Controllership and Finance Partnering preferably within a similar operating model and pharmaceutical industry.
• Extensive experience in finance processes and associated technology platforms. Knowledge of Finance processes is key to support the team and provide expertise to stakeholders, and develop appropriate solutions.
• Experience of working in a GBS environment and also managing a BPO for a sizeable company
• Demonstrated track record of driving process improvements, automation and standardisation initiatives
• Highly developed leadership skills, including ability to lead and inspire large organisations.
• Ability to network and effectively communicate and partner with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
• Experience working on Transformations project and/or Global Process initiatives
• Ability to identify and resolve issues, demonstrate problem-solving capabilities and strong commercial acumen
• Ability to work effectively in a remote, multicultural and global environment supporting multiple countries / entities globally
• Fluency in English is a requirement.
