Job summary

Optum, a part of UnitedHealth Group, is seeking a tech leader to drive a large engineering team. You will consolidate multiple application instances into a single .Net based system, establish coding standards, and mentor teams while driving automation and best practices.

You will influence architecture, collaborate across global time zones, and manage 30+ engineers. Applicants should have a BS/BE in CS, 7+ years shipping distributed web software with .Net/JS/Node/Angular and MS SQL, plus 3+

Qualifications

• BS/BE in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years shipping production web software in a scaled distributed environment using .Net, JavaScript, Node, Angular and MS SQL.
• 3+ years contributing to architecture and design of systems including RESTful services.
• Experience with cloud concepts and influencing engineering best practices.
• Strong communication with stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
• Flexible to work across time zones.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Lead a team that is consolidating multiple instances of the application into single instance (.Net Based)
• Establish and control code quality standards, development best practices, defect-free code delivery for the teams
• Enable teams to be successful in modern designs and patterns by providing guidance, mentoring, and code reviews
• Propose and drive automation to reduce efforts of development
• Portfolio management - Hiring, Performance and compensation management of his span, Employee retention
• Manage performance and development of team members, including policy administration, compliance, coaching, disciplinary action and recognition
• Ability to influence team members, peers, customers and stakeholders
• Managing team of 30+ team members

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelors (BS / BE) in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience
• 7+ years of experience building and shipping production web enabled software in a scaled distributed environment using a variety of modern technologies (.Net, JavaScript, Node, Angular) and a variety of modern database technologies (MS SQL)
• 3+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems, including RESTful web services
• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Expertise with public cloud concepts & experience influencing software engineering best practices
• Good understanding of Development processes and tools - Sonar, Jenkins, GitHub, CI / CD
• Thorough understanding of fundamental software engineering and computer science principles: object-oriented design, structured design, databases, algorithms, data structures, usability, debugging, and configuration management
• Flexible to accommodate different time zone across globe
• Proven excellent interpersonal skills including written and verbal skills with the ability to create and maintain strong relationships with members of cross departmental teams
• Proven sharp problem-solving skills and ability to resolve ambiguous requirements and drive clarity
