Job summary

Citi in Pune, India seeks a Digital Software Engineer Group Manager with extensive experience to lead a multi-disciplinary software team. You will deliver complex applications, drive architectural decisions, and own end-to-end engineering processes from inception to post-implementation.

You will mentor engineers, ensure high-quality code, and collaborate with stakeholders to align technical outcomes with business goals. The role emphasizes scalable solutions, cloud and CI/CD, and agile practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred.
• 15+ years of development, delivery and support of mission-critical applications.
• Ability to self-learn new technologies and tools.
• Knowledge of AI, ML, LLMs, and Generative AI concepts.
• Experience with Copilot, Gemini, Claude, Devin.
• Proficiency in React, JavaScript, HTML5, Java, Spring Boot, Python, and related tech.
• Strong cloud, containers, CI/CD, and SaaS understanding.
• Experience in API & Microservices design and deployment.
• Experience in Agile & Scrum methodologies.
• Experience building reusable frameworks and components.

The Digital S/W Engineer Group Mgr is accountable for management of complex/critical/large professional disciplinary areas. Leads and directs a team of professionals. Requires a comprehensive understanding of multiple areas within a function and how they interact in order to achieve the objectives of the function. Applies in-depth understanding of the business impact of technical contributions. Strong commercial awareness is a necessity. Generally accountable for delivery of a full range of services to one or more businesses/ geographic regions. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Some external communication may be necessary. Accountable for the end results of an area. Exercises control over resources, policy formulation and planning. Primarily affects a sub-function. Involved in short- to medium-term planning of actions and resources for own area. Full management responsibility of a team or multiple teams, including management of people, budget and planning, to include performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations and budget approval.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and deploy software components and solve difficult problems generating positive feedback.
• Effectively coach, help and give feedback to team members.
• Work independently and with team(s) to deliver software product successfully.
• Lead deliveries that are consistently of high quality (secure, testable, maintainable, low-defects, efficient, etc.) and incorporate best practices.
• Review design and code.
• Focus on operational excellence, constructively identifying problems, identifying and building solutions, taking on projects that improve software, making it better and easier to maintain.
• Make improvements to SDLC processes and be the end-to-end owner for all engineering activities from inception to post-implementation.
• Regularly provide insights, lessons learned, risks and opportunities to senior leaders.
• Manage employees and non-employees.
• Manage team and deliveries to the budget.

Recommended Qualifications

• 15 or more years of relevant experience in development, delivery, and support of mission critical, customer facing applications progressively as engineer, engineer lead and engineer manager.
• Ability to self-learn new technologies and tools.
• Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Large and Small Language Models, Retrieval Augmented Generation, AI Agents, Agentic AI, Generative AI, Predictive AI.
• Experience in using one or more of Copilot, Gemini, Claude, Devin
• Proficient in many, if not all, of these - React, JavaScript, HTML5, Java, Spring Boot, Python, Solace, MQ, JMS, Spring JPA, Hibernate ORM, JDBC, COBOL, Mainframe, Jenkins, Oracle, DB2, MongoDB.
• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, containers, CI/CD, and SaaS.
• Experience in design, build, and deployment of APIs & Microservices.
• Experience in BDD and test automation.
• Good knowledge of design patterns.
• Ability to design & build scalable and efficient solutions.
• Experience in Agile & Scrum methodologies.
• Experience in building frameworks and reusable shared components.
