Job summary

Sarthee Consultancy seeks an experienced Electrical Maintenance leader to oversee all electrical systems in a blast furnace complex. You will manage preventive and corrective maintenance, upgrades, and reliability initiatives across HT/LT switchgear, transformers, motors, MCCs, drives, and safety systems.

The role requires deep hands-on experience in large-scale steel plants, strong leadership, and a track record of safe, reliable operations.

Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering is mandatory.
• Extensive experience in electrical maintenance of large blast furnace units or integrated steel plants.
• Leadership experience in commissioning, operations, and maintenance of blast furnace electrical systems (DGM: 20–25 years).

Responsibilities

• Ensure uninterrupted power supply and safe operation of electrical systems across the Blast Furnace complex.
• Oversee operation and maintenance of HT/LT switchgear, transformers, motors, MCCs, drives, lighting and earthing systems.
• Plan and execute electrical system upgrades, expansions, and modernization projects; review vendor documentation.
• Coordinate with OEMs, EPC contractors, and suppliers for project execution and commissioning.
• Lead preventive maintenance schedules and drive reliability improvements (MTBF/MTTR).
• Maintain documentation in SAP CMMS and ensure electrical safety standards (IS/IEC) and LOTO compliance.

Role & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure uninterrupted power supply and safe operation of all electrical systems across the Blast Furnace complex.
• Oversee operation and maintenance of HT/LT switchgear, transformers, motors, MCCs, AC/DC drives, lighting, and earthing systems.
• Manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of electrical equipment to minimize downtime.
• Ensure healthiness of UPS systems, DG sets, and emergency power systems for critical areas.
• Conduct regular energy audits and implement energy-saving initiatives to optimize power consumption.
• Provide electrical support for major furnace subsystems, including Cast House mud gun, tap hole drill, tilting runner, slag granulation system, Stock House weigh hoppers, conveyors, screeners, feeders, bins, Cooling Water Systems, Blower House, Turbo Blowers, Compressors, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems, and Instrumentation interfaces with PLC, SCADA, and DCS.
• Plan and execute electrical system upgrades, expansions, and modernization projects; review and approve technical specifications and vendor documentation.
• Coordinate with OEMs, EPC contractors, and suppliers for project execution and commissioning.
• Establish and implement robust Preventive Maintenance schedules for all electrical assets.
• Conduct equipment reliability studies (MTBF/MTTR) and implement improvement plans.
• Drive condition monitoring programs including thermography, insulation resistance tests, and vibration analysis.
• Maintain proper documentation of maintenance records and equipment history in SAP CMMS.
• Enforce strict adherence to electrical safety standards (IS/IEC) and plant safety procedures; ensure Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) compliance during maintenance.
• Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and team training for electrical safety and operational excellence.
• Lead and motivate a team of engineers, supervisors, and technicians; carry out skill development and performance evaluations.
• Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement in electrical maintenance operations.
• Control electrical maintenance budgets and ensure cost optimization while maintaining safety and reliability.
• Manage spares and consumables inventory to ensure availability of critical electrical components.
• Drive initiatives for indigenous development of spare parts and cost reduction.

Preferred candidate profile

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (mandatory).

• Experience:
• AGM: 1520 years of experience in electrical maintenance of large blast furnace units or integrated steel plants.
• DGM: 20–25 years of experience, including leadership roles in commissioning, operations, and maintenance of blast furnace electrical systems
