Job summary

HSBC is seeking a Senior Consultant Specialist to lead cloud, DevOps and platform engineering initiatives across AWS and Kubernetes. You will drive architecture, implement IaC with Terraform, and guide delivery teams in a large, complex environment.

You will evolve the Kubernetes platform, optimize costs, and ensure security, governance and production readiness. Collaboration across Security, Risk, Compliance and IT teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience building and operating large production platforms.
• Strong knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes and Terraform.
• Experience with CI/CD, Docker, and Python in production environments.

• Establish cloud cost management practices including tagging, rightsizing and capacity planning.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Consultant Specialist

What you'll do

• Own cloud, DevOps and platform engineering initiatives across Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Kubernetes for HSBC Productivity Suite
• Act as a senior engineer within one or more pods, setting technical direction and supporting delivery through coaching and design reviews
• Build, configure and operate AWS environments and reusable platform capabilities using Infrastructure as Code - primarily Terraform
• Evolve the Kubernetes platform to meet growing demand, improving resilience, performance, developer experience and operational efficiency
• Establish cloud cost management practices including tagging, allocation, rightsizing, capacity planning, scheduling and usage monitoring
• Enable responsible adoption of open-source technologies and LLM solutions, assessing security, licensing, data privacy and regulatory needs
• Embed release and production-readiness controls including automation, validation, governance, rollback controls and operational telemetry
• Partner with Cloud Services, Application DevOps, Architecture, Security, Risk, Compliance and IT teams to meet engineering standards and remediation commitments

What you will need to succeed in the role

• Bring strong hands‑on experience building, deploying, monitoring and operating significant production platforms in a large complex environment
• Apply advanced practical knowledge of Kubernetes and AWS including designing for availability, resilience, security, scalability and day‑two operations
• Use Infrastructure as Code and modern delivery practices including Terraform, CI/CD, automated testing and controlled production releases
• Apply practical expertise across relevant tooling such as Docker, Helm, service mesh technologies, Python and monitoring logging and alerting
• Manage cloud migration and operational‑readiness work including governance, security, capacity, resilience, compliance and production support
• Apply cloud cost optimisation and resource governance, translating usage data into practical improvements and accountability
• Use sound judgement across security standards, architecture governance, compliance controls, remediation management and responsible use of open‑source and AI technologies
• Communicate clearly in technical forums and deliver complex work using Agile, Scrum and DevOps methods
