Job summary

CIBC India, a technology and operations hub in Hyderabad, is seeking a senior Python developer to lead in-house Python applications for Equities Trading, Prime Services, and Clearing. You will translate business requirements into production-ready features, and drive testing, release, and maintenance within a secure, auditable stack.

You will collaborate across teams, design scalable data processing components, and contribute to CI/CD and Azure deployments, while upholding engineering standards

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with hands-on delivery of production Python services/applications.
• Experience with Azure services and modern integration patterns (web services, APIs) is an asset.
• Experience with Oracle databases (e.g., Oracle SQL/PL/SQL) analyzing data and writing complex procedures and materialized views.

Responsibilities

• Clarify requirements with Product Owners and stakeholders and translate into technical designs and implementation tasks.

BUSINESS UNIT DESCRIPTION:

Equities Market Technology is a core technology function within CIBC Capital Markets, responsible for building and supporting mission critical platforms that enable Equities Trading, Prime Services, and Clearing operations. The team delivers scalable, resilient, and secure technology solutions across the trade lifecycle, including data movement and in house processing that supports downstream reporting, controls, and integrations. Solutions are designed to operate in a high throughput environment while meeting regulatory, operational, and audit requirements across global markets.

JOB PURPOSE:

Drives the overall software development lifecycle (SDLC) for in-house Python applications and services supporting Equities Trading, Prime Services, and Clearing. Works across functional teams to transform business requirements into production-ready features by translating user needs into technical specifications, preparing design artefacts, writing high-quality code, and leading testing, release, and ongoing maintenance. Supports system design decisions (including security requirements), debugs production systems and service applications, and applies strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and programming languages to build reliable, performant, and auditable solutions aligned to enterprise standards (tools, platforms, and patterns).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Partner with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and stakeholders to clarify requirements, define acceptance criteria, and translate business needs into technical designs and implementation tasks.
• Design and develop Python applications/services and data processing components, producing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code aligned with architecture patterns and technology standards.
• Create and maintain technical design artefacts and developer documentation (e.g., JIRA/Confluence) to support delivery, onboarding, and auditability.
• Implement and integrate with relational databases using SQL; ensure data quality, controls, and performance for end-to-end processing.
• Build automated tests (unit/integration/regression) and support quality activities to ensure production readiness.
• Ensure solutions meet non-functional requirements (security, logging, error handling, resiliency, and performance) and contribute to secure-by-design practices.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback; continuously improve code quality, standards, and reusable components.
• Support CI/CD and deployment activities (including Azure environments where applicable); monitor and troubleshoot issues across development, test, and production.
• Respond to production incidents by performing triage, root-cause analysis, and implementing fixes and preventive improvements.
• Contribute to audits and operational controls by maintaining traceability from requirements to code, test evidence, and release documentation.

JOB DIMENSIONS:

• Leads in house Python application engineering that supports Equities Trading, Prime Services, and Clearing, with heavy Oracle dependency and scheduled/batch workloads.
• Accountable for reliable daily/weekly processing: batch schedules, SLAs, data correctness, and fast recovery when things break.
• Sets the modern delivery approach for the team by introducing Agentic SDLC practices, raising engineering standards, and coaching others while operating in a controlled, audit-friendly environment.

Technical Skills:

• Mandatory Core Skills: Hands-on experience with Agentic AI, end-to-end SDLC, AI-assisted development using Copilot, Linux, and RabbitMQ/Kafka/MQ.
• SQL Server — Mandatory: In-depth expertise in T-SQL, complex queries, stored procedures, functions, views, indexing, query execution plans, performance tuning, transactions, data modelling, security, backup and recovery, and high-availability concepts.
• Oracle — Mandatory: In-depth expertise in Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, packages, procedures, functions, triggers, materialized views, partitioning, indexing, query optimization, execution plans, performance tuning, transactions, data modelling, and database troubleshooting.
• Python — Mandatory: Strong hands-on experience with core Python, object-oriented programming, data structures, exception handling, decorators, generators, context managers, memory management, clean code, packaging, performance optimization, and automated testing.
• Experience building scalable RESTful APIs and microservices using Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Proficiency in data processing and manipulation using Pandas and NumPy, including validation, transformation, and optimization of large datasets.
• Hands-on experience with asynchronous programming, multithreading, multiprocessing and performance profiling for high-throughput Python applications.
• Experience with Python dependency management, virtual environments, reusable modules, logging, configuration management, and secure coding practices.
• Proficiency with automated testing with PyTest or unittest , mocking, code coverage, static analysis, linting, type checking, debugging, and unit, integration, and regression testing.
• Experience developing and operating solutions on Azure, including deployment, configuration, monitoring, and CI/CD practices.
• Familiarity with networking, systems integration, web services, APIs, operating systems, development environments, and deployment practices.
• Proficiency with developer and delivery tools such as Visual Studio, JIRA, and Confluence.
• JRE familiarity is a nice to have.

Experience:

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, with hands‑on delivery of production Python services/applications.
• Experience with testing practices (unit, integration, regression) and supporting releases/production issues (triage, diagnosis, and root-cause analysis).
• Experience with Azure services and modern integration patterns (web services, APIs) is an asset.
