Job summary

Genpact is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale APIs and services in Python using FastAPI. The role focuses on GenAI integration, vector databases, and embedding storage, working across product, frontend, and DevOps teams in an IT operations context for manufacturing.

Qualifications

We are looking for a Backend Engineer with hands‑on expertise in Python and FastAPI, and a strong interest in Generative AI (GenAI) applications. You will design, build, and maintain scalable APIs and services that integrate LLMs, vector databases, and prompt engineering techniques to deliver next‑generation intelligent solutions for IT Operations in the manufacturing domain. This role is ideal for engineers eager to work at the intersection of backend engineering and AI, collaborating closely with product, frontend, and DevOps teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Backend Development & API Design: Build and maintain high-performance RESTful APIs using Python (FastAPI).
• Integrate APIs with LLMs, vector databases, and GenAI pipelines.
• Implement authentication, authorization, and scalability best practices.
• GenAI Integration Support: design and implementation of prompt engineering patterns.
• Connect APIs with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, FAISS, Weaviate) for embedding storage and retrieval.
• Collaborate on workflows that use LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure OpenAI, etc.) for contextual responses.
• Cloud & DevOps Enablement: Deploy backend services on AWS (Lambda, ECS, API Gateway, S3, RDS/DynamoDB).
• Work with CI/CD pipelines to ensure smooth deployments and monitoring.
• Optimize services for performance, cost, and reliability.
• Collaboration & Agile Execution: Translate business/functional requirements into technical stories.
• Collaborate with squad leads, QA, and frontend developers to ensure cohesive delivery.
• Participate in code reviews, knowledge-sharing, and agile ceremonies.

Required Skills & Experience

• Technical expertise: backend development experience with Python and FastAPI.
• Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs, microservices, and security best practices.
• Hands‑on experience with SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with AWS cloud services and CI/CD pipelines.
• Understanding of GenAI concepts – embeddings, vector search, model integration.
• Exposure to prompt engineering techniques (zero-shot, few-shot, RAG).
• Experience with vector databases (OpenSearch).
• Familiarity with LLM integration (OpenAI API).
