Job summary

Atlas Copco Group in Pune, India, seeks a Design / Senior Design Engineer – NPD - OFA to drive new product development with an engineering focus and ensure on-time delivery and first-time-right quality.

You will plan project execution, coordinate with CAE and Electrical teams, and maintain design integrity through reviews and adherence to company standards. A strong background in mechanical design and DFMEA is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; 3–8 years of experience.
• Basic knowledge of Air Compressors and designing compressor packages.
• Understand key contributors to product performance and quality.
• Knowledge of modularity approach and design for serviceability.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and participate in NPD projects with an engineering perspective.
• Coordinate with CAE, Electrical Design, and other teams; follow SOPs.
• Review designs with designated reviewers before release to ensure quality.
• Follow Atlas Copco design codes, standards, and checklists; ensure adherence to quality norms.

Your role

As Design / Senior Design Engineer – NPD - OFA, your mission is to deliver and participate in new product development projects with an engineering point of view while improving Time to Market and driving the technical competence of GECIA teams with a solution-centric approach. You shall achieve this by developing your competence and by reorienting your energy towards Product Innovation and technology platforms while maintaining On-time Delivery and a First Time Right Approach.

As Design / Senior Design Engineer, you need to plan project execution with the objective of delivering projects within the estimated time and quality standards within the limits of GECIA's structure, processes, and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Focus

• Understand the project requirements and work content based on the inputs received.
• Ensure GECIA’s contribution to improve Time to Market.
• Communicate progress and deliverable updates to the stakeholders, raise red flags and highlight any concerns to all stakeholders. Demonstrate GECIA’s contribution to NPD Projects.
• Monitor deliverables with adherence to SOPs and resolve technical issues raised.
• Ensure proper coordination with other competences involved, such as CAE, Electrical Design, etc.
• Ensure that designs are reviewed by the design reviewer prior to release.

People Focus

• Suggest different CAD automation projects to automate repeated processes and improve quality.

To succeed, you will need

Experience & Knowledge Requirement

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 3-8 years of experience.
• Should have basic knowledge of Air Compressors and designing of compressor packages.
• Ensure and prepare design of parts as per the scope defined in the contract documents.
• Should understand key contributors to product performance, product quality, and aesthetic value.
• Should have a basic understanding of the modularity approach.
• Work on finalizing outputs and design layouts along with the design engineers on the project.
• Knowledge of sheet metal, piping design, flange selection, and heavy fabrication. Produce and check 3D assemblies and 2D drawings.
• Take ownership of projects until delivery.
• Responsible for following Atlas Copco design codes, standards, work instructions, and checklists for assigned tasks, and carrying out the necessary checks. Ensure adherence to quality norms as defined by the Team Leader from time to time.
• Expertise in Product Development Process (Concept-to-Product).
• Knowledge of DFMEA and Design Review Processes is essential.
• Knowledge of DFM and DFA, including Design for Serviceability.
• Control and monitor work performed by external design agencies, both onsite and offsite.
• Experience working with CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, ERP (BPCS), Autodesk Vault, and PLM (Enovia) systems.
