Job summary

Atlas Copco Group seeks a Senior Design Engineer – NPD – Energy Conversion to lead and contribute to new product development. You will drive time-to-market improvements, enhance technical competence across GECIA teams, and push for innovative, modular, and serviceable designs.

Responsibilities include coordinating with CAE, electrical design, PLC, and documentation teams, reviewing designs, and mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering with 4–6 years of experience.
• Experience with Steam Compressors, Steam Expanders, Boilers, Heat Pumps, Chillers, Piping, and Package Design.
• Familiarity with refrigerants such as R454B, R32, R1233zd, and R513A.
• Knowledge of DFMEA and Design Review Processes.
• Experience with CAD software such as Inventor and PLM systems like Vault, Enovia, and SAP.

Senior Design Engineer - NPD - Energy Conversion

Your role

As a Senior Design Engineer – NPD – Energy Conversion, your mission is to deliver and participate in new product development projects from an engineering point of view while improving Time to Market and driving the technical competence of GECIA teams with a solution-centric approach. You shall achieve this by developing your competence and reorienting your energy towards Product Innovation and technology platforms, while maintaining On-time Delivery and a First Time Right Approach.

As a Senior Design Engineer, you need to plan project execution with the objective of delivering projects within the estimated time and quality standards, within the limits of GECIA's structure, processes, and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Focus

• Understand the project requirements and work content based on the inputs received.
• Ensure GECIA’s contribution to improving Time to Market.
• Communicate progress and deliverable updates to stakeholders, raise red flags, and highlight any concerns to all stakeholders. Demonstrate GECIA’s contribution to NPD projects.
• Monitor deliverables with adherence to SOPs and resolve technical issues raised.
• Ensure proper coordination with other competencies involved in CAE, Electrical Design, PLC, Technical Documentation, etc.
• Ensure that designs are reviewed by the design reviewer prior to release.

To succeed, you will need

Experience & Knowledge Requirement:

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 4 to 6 years of experience.
• Good knowledge of Steam Compressors, Steam Expanders, Boilers, Heat Pumps, Air-Cooled & Water-Cooled Chillers, Heat Exchangers, Piping, and Package Design.
• Familiarity with refrigerants such as R454B, R32, R1233zd, and R513A.
• Understanding of key contributors to product performance, product quality, and aesthetic value.
• Knowledge of Vapor Compression/Absorption Cycles, Steam Applications, Process Chillers & Coolers, Sheet Metal, Pressure Vessels, Piping Design, Flange Selection, and Heavy Fabrication.
• Ability to understand P&IDs, Flow Transmitters, Valves, Filter Dryers, Pressure & Temperature Gauges, etc.
• Experience working with international standards applicable to the steam industry, including ASME, UL, ANSI, DIN, PED, DNV, ClassNK, ABS, BV, NORSOK, and LR.
• Knowledge of Modular Design of Assemblies, Interfaces, and Cooling & Heating Systems will be an added advantage.
• Experience in performing component-level design calculations.
• Expertise in New Product Development (NPD) / New Product Introduction (NPI) processes from concept to product.
• Knowledge of DFMEA and Design Review Processes is essential.
• Understanding of DFM, DFA, and Design for Serviceability.
• Experience with CAD software such as Inventor (mandatory) and PLM systems like Vault, Enovia, and SAP.
• Exposure to BPCS and BOM generation using Configurator will be an added advantage.
