Job summary

Midwest Energy Limited is seeking a BESS Technical Lead to spearhead system design and integration for utility-scale energy storage projects in India. The role requires 8–15 years of hands-on experience in BESS, battery systems, and power electronics, with strong expertise in electrical design, thermal management, and safety compliance.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams through FAT/SAT, commissioning, and risk-based DFMEA/PFMEA activities, ensuring adherence to UL 1973/9540 family and IEC

Qualifications

  • 8–15 years in BESS, battery systems, power electronics, or related engineering.
  • Experience with UL 1973, UL 9540, UL 9540A, IEC 62619 and local/grid regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead BESS system architecture, design, and technical specifications for utility-scale and industrial storage projects.
  • Drive integration of battery cells/modules, packs, racks, containers, HVAC, and interfaces.
  • Define and manage interfaces between BMS, PCS, EMS, SCADA, and control systems.
  • Lead HV/LV electrical design, protection coordination, and equipment selection.
  • Ensure battery thermal-management architecture including HVAC and liquid cooling.
  • Develop fire-safety and thermal-runaway mitigation strategies.
  • Perform energy/power sizing, degradation analysis, SLDs, load flow, and short-circuit studies.
  • Ensure designs comply with UL/IEC standards and local regulations.
  • Lead FAT, SAT, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
  • Lead DFMEA/PFMEA, supplier evaluations, vendor development, design reviews, risk management.

Job Description BESS Technical Lead

Position: BESS Technical Lead
Function: Engineering / Energy Storage Systems
Experience: 8–15 years in BESS, battery systems, power electronics, or related engineering

Key Responsibilities
  1. BESS System Design & Engineering – Lead the complete BESS system architecture, design, engineering, and technical specifications for utility-scale, C&I, and industrial energy storage projects.
  2. Battery Pack, Rack & Container Integration – Drive integration of battery cells/modules, packs, racks, containers, HVAC, auxiliary systems, and associated mechanical and electrical interfaces.
  3. BMS, PCS & EMS Integration – Define and manage technical integration between Battery Management System (BMS), Power Conversion System (PCS), Energy Management System (EMS), SCADA, and other control systems.
  4. HV Electrical Design & Protection Coordination – Lead HV/LV electrical design, transformer and switchgear selection, protection philosophy, relay coordination, earthing, cable sizing, and electrical safety requirements.
  5. Thermal Management & Liquid Cooling – Ensure appropriate battery thermal-management architecture, including HVAC and liquid-cooling systems, thermal performance, cooling-loop design, monitoring, and optimization.
  6. Fire Safety & Thermal Runaway Mitigation – Develop and review fire-protection and thermal-runaway mitigation strategies, including detection, suppression, gas management, propagation prevention, emergency response, and safety interlocks.
  7. BESS Sizing, SLD & Power System Engineering – Perform and review energy/power sizing, degradation analysis, auxiliary-load calculations, SLDs, load flow, short-circuit studies, and overall power-system design.
  8. Standards & Compliance – Ensure BESS designs and products comply with applicable standards and certification requirements, including UL 1973, UL 9540, UL 9540A, IEC 62619, and relevant local/grid regulations.
  9. FAT, SAT, Testing & Commissioning – Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, performance validation, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and resolution of technical issues.
  10. DFMEA/PFMEA, Vendor Development & Technical Project Management – Lead DFMEA/PFMEA activities, supplier technical evaluations, vendor development, design reviews, technical documentation, risk management, and cross-functional project execution.
