Job summary

SATRA Group in India seeks a senior Lead Bridge Design Engineer to plan, analyze, design, and deliver railway bridge projects from feasibility to final approvals. You will coordinate with track, civil, geotechnical and OHE teams, review GADs and drawings, and ensure adherence to Indian Railways standards and ISO quality practices.

The role requires 10+ years in civil bridge design, strong leadership, and experience guiding a design team through construction support and value engineering.

Qualifications

• B.Tech in Civil Engineering with 10+ years of bridge design experience.
• Experience with Indian Railways standards, RDSO, IRS, IRC, IS Codes.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage design projects end-to-end.

Job description

• Lead the planning, analysis, design, and delivery of railway bridge structures, including Major Bridges, Minor Bridges, ROBs, RUBs, FOBs, Viaducts, Steel Bridges, PSC Bridges, Composite Bridges, and allied structures.
• Review and approve conceptual, preliminary, and detailed bridge designs in compliance with Indian Railways, RDSO, IRS, IRC, IS Codes, and project-specific requirements.
• Manage the complete bridge design process from feasibility studies to detailed engineering, construction support, and final approvals.
• Lead multidisciplinary coordination with Track, Civil, Geotechnical, Hydrology, Structural, OHE, Signalling & Telecommunication, Electrical, and Utility teams to ensure seamless project execution.
• Review and approve structural analysis, design calculations, General Arrangement Drawings (GADs), reinforcement drawings, fabrication drawings, and design reports.
• Coordinate with Railway Authorities, RDSO, Zonal Railways, RVNL, DFCCIL, Metro Rail Corporations, and Clients for technical discussions, design approvals, and statutory compliance.
• Guide and supervise a team of bridge design engineers, CAD/BIM engineers, and drafting personnel, ensuring adherence to project schedules and quality standards.
• Review contractor's designs, shop drawings, temporary works, construction methodology, and erection schemes to ensure compliance with contractual and technical requirements.
• Provide technical leadership during construction by resolving design-related issues, reviewing field modifications, and approving design revisions where required.
• Undertake design optimization and value engineering to improve constructability, safety, and cost efficiency without compromising quality.
• Ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems (ISO), Railway safety standards, contractual obligations, and engineering best practices.
• Monitor design progress, resource allocation, project schedules, and deliverables to ensure timely completion of milestones.
• Participate in technical audits, proof checking, independent design verification, and risk assessments for complex bridge structures.
• Review geotechnical, hydrological, and seismic studies and recommend appropriate foundation systems and structural solutions.
• Prepare and review technical proposals, bid documents, engineering estimates, design basis reports, and technical presentations during project bidding and execution.
• Mentor junior engineers, conduct technical reviews, and promote continuous improvement in bridge design practices and engineering standards.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, proof consultants, and statutory authorities to ensure timely approvals and successful project delivery.
• Support inspection, load testing, commissioning, and defect rectification activities until project completion.
• Ensure proper documentation, revision control, and maintenance of all engineering records in accordance with contractual and organizational requirements.
