Job summary

PeopleStrong is seeking a Nursing shift supervisor in Pune, India. The role involves taking over from the previous shift, ensuring nursing assessments and documentation, and coordinating with doctors on duty to update patient records.

Candidate must hold a Graduation or equivalent qualification with valid BLS/ACLS certification. The position requires staying in hospital premises and coordinating with multiple departments to ensure smooth patient care during night shifts.

Qualifications

• Nurse with Graduation or equivalent qualification.
• Certification in basic life support (BLS) and advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) desirable.

Responsibilities

• Check the communication book for any new instructions during every shift.
• Check the assignment Register to know the assignment for the shift.
• Verify inventory of all equipment and inform Nurse Manager of discrepancies.
• Attend consultant rounds and update patient records with changes.
• Take rounds of all admitted patients and inform details to the Doctor on duty.
• Ensure nursing assessments and documentation are completed for assigned patients.
• Ensure medications and consumables are available for patients and in the department.
• Endorse patients to the next duty Team leader and maintain ward safety.

Job Description

• Check the communication book for any new instructions during every shift
• Check the assignment Register to know the assignment for the shift
• Check and verify the inventory of all equipment, and instruments as per the inventory register and inform the Nurse Manager in case of any discrepancies noted
• Inquire and know about the following:
• Department Census
• Admissions in the department
• Transfer in and Transfer out
• Death
• Medico- legal Cases
• Details of patients undergoing special investigations/invasive procedures and or Surgery
• Details of patients requiring special considerations (Barrier Nursing Precautions, VIPs, Relatives of Employees etc.)
• Planned discharges during the shift
• Others: Issues related to Support Services (Diet/Laundry/Stores/Pharmacy/Maintenance/CSSD/Bio-Medical/Billing/Housekeeping etc)
• Interdepartmental lending /borrowing of equipments or consumables and drugs
• Take over from the previous shift team leader
• Ensure that the team members have completed the Nursing Assessment and completed the documentation of their assigned patients
• Take round of all admitted patients in the unit and inform necessary details to the Doctor on duty
• Guide and provide necessary assistance to the team members to plan, prioritize, implement and evaluate nursing care
• Ensure that all the instructions given by the doctor is carried out and documented as per hospital policy by the assigned staff
• Attend the Consultant's rounds and update changes/special instructions in patient's record
• Ensure completion of changes / special instructions as advised by the Consultant
• Assist for procedures as required at the bedside
• Monitor patients closely as per hospital protocol or as advised by the doctor
• Complete documentation in the Shift Report Register according to hospital protocol
• Ensure that adequate supply of medicines and consumables are available with the patient and in the department
• Ensure that patients are prepared for surgeries / procedures as indicated
• Arrange to shift the patients to other departments if required as per Hospital Policy
• Ensure the comfort of the patient and family at all times
• Ensure replacement of medicines and consumables used from the departmental stock
• Ensure that billing of all procedures and investigations done during the shift are completed
• Complete all relevant documents
• Check the patient’s records for any changes, special orders etc. and update as needed from time to time
• Check and receive all pending investigations reports, if any
• Ensure patients needs for activities of daily living are met as required by the assigned nurses
• Maintain ward safety and provide safe environment.
• Report any special events during the shift to the Nurse Manager and or Deputy Nursing Officer/Chief Nursing Officer
• Ensure that all admissions, transfers, Death and discharges are entered in the Admission Discharge Register
• Ensure that the shift report is completed
• Endorse the patients to the next duty Team leader
• Maintain good interpersonal relationship with all employees, patients, families and community.
• Ensure that patient's and or family's communications/requirements are attended or communicated to the concerned department/person
• Additional Responsibilities during Night Shift:

  • Supervise and guide Junior Staff nurses, Health Care Assistants and Housekeeping staff
