Qualifications

  • 8–12 years of EHS management experience in large projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety initiatives and supervise EHS personnel across projects.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, client and company EHS requirements.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify unsafe acts.
  • Monitor corrective actions and close-out of actions.
  • Lead JSA, HIRA, and Method Statement reviews.
  • Review high-risk permits (e.g., Work at Height, Hot Work, Confined Space, Lifting, Excavation, LOTO).
  • Coordinate safety meetings and contractor safety programs.
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses, perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain EHS dashboards and prepare weekly/monthly reports.
  • Organise safety training and awareness programs for employees and contractors.

Job description

Purpose/Objective

To support the implementation and continual improvement of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) management systems across project activities by ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, company standards, and best industry practices. The Deputy Manager - EHS shall lead safety initiatives, supervise safety personnel, monitor contractor compliance, and promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities of Role
  • Safety Management - Implement and monitor the Project EHS Management Plan.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legal, statutory, client, and organizational EHS requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety assessments to identify unsafe acts and conditions.
  • Monitor implementation of risk control measures and ensure closure of corrective actions.
  • Lead and participate in Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA), and Method Statement reviews.
  • Review and approve high-risk work permits including:
    • Work at Height
    • Hot Work
    • Confined Space Entry
    • Lifting Operations
    • Excavation Activities
    • Electrical Isolation (LOTO)
  • Contractor Safety Management - Ensure contractors and subcontractors comply with project EHS requirements.
  • Conduct contractor safety performance evaluations.
  • Facilitate safety induction and awareness programs for contractor personnel.
  • Monitor deployment and effectiveness of contractor safety teams.
  • Coordinate safety meetings with contractors and project stakeholders.
  • Incident Prevention & Investigation - Report, investigate, and analyze incidents, near misses, dangerous occurrences, and property damage cases.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and ensure implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Share incident learnings across departments and contractor workforces.
  • Maintain incident statistics and trend analysis.
  • Training & Awareness - Plan and conduct induction training, toolbox talks, refresher training, and safety campaigns.
  • Identify training needs for employees and contractors.
  • Organize observance programs such as:
    • National Safety Day/Month
    • Fire Safety Week
    • Environment Day
    • Road Safety Campaigns
  • Mentor and guide Safety Officers, Supervisors, and Safety Stewards.
  • Emergency Preparedness - Coordinate emergency response planning and mock drills.
  • Ensure availability and readiness of firefighting equipment and emergency resources.
  • Review emergency response procedures and evacuation plans.
  • Coordinate with emergency response teams during incidents.
  • EHS Monitoring & Reporting - Develop and maintain EHS performance dashboards.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly EHS reports for management review.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including:
    • LTIFR
    • TRIR
    • Near Miss Reporting
    • Safety Observations
    • Training Compliance
    • Audit Closure Status
  • Present EHS performance during management review meetings.
  • Environmental Management - Monitor compliance with environmental regulations and permit conditions.
  • Ensure proper management of waste, hazardous materials, and pollution control measures.
  • Monitor air, noise, water, and waste management practices.
  • Promote sustainability and environmental improvement initiatives.
  • Compliance & Documentation - Ensure compliance with:
    • Factories Act
    • BOCW Act & Rules
    • Gujarat Factory Rules
    • Environmental Regulations
    • National Building Code (NBC)
    • Company EHS Standards
  • Maintain statutory records, registers, and licenses related to EHS.
  • Coordinate with government authorities and auditors during inspections.

  • Experience in handling multi-contractor work environments.
