Job summary

Larsen & Toubro in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, seeks a Foreman/Supervisor/Engineer/Manager - EHS - Site to support the implementation of EHS systems on the project site. You will monitor day-to-day safety practices, ensure compliance with SOPs, and proactively identify hazards across work zones.

The role covers safety audits, toolbox talks, contractor supervision, incident reporting and environmental management to deliver a safe, compliant, and sustainable site.

Qualifications

  • ITI/ Diploma/Bachelor in Engineering with Safety certification.
  • Working knowledge of English and local language for site communication.
  • Hands-on safety implementation at construction/industrial sites.

Responsibilities

  • Daily site safety monitoring across work zones for hazards and unsafe acts.
  • Ensure adherence to statutory and internal safety requirements and document maintenance.
  • Oversee contractor safety, PPE usage, and permit-to-work compliance.
  • Support incident reporting, investigations, and root-cause analysis.
  • Organise toolbox talks, inductions and daily safety briefings with execution teams.

SECTION II: ROLE SUMMARY (Purpose of the Role)

The Foreman/Supervisor/Engineer/Manager - EHS – Site is responsible for supporting the implementation of Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) systems at the project site. The role ensures day-to-day monitoring of safety practices, compliance with standard operating procedures, and proactive identification of hazards. The incumbent supports site safety audits, training programs, contractor supervision, incident reporting, and environmental management activities to ensure a safe, compliant, and sustainable work environment.

SECTION III: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Daily Site Safety Monitoring: Conduct routine inspections across work zones to identify hazards, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions.
  • Compliance Support: Ensure adherence to all statutory, regulatory, and internal safety requirements, and maintain necessary EHS documentation.
  • Contractor Safety Oversight: Monitor and guide contractor teams for proper PPE usage, safe work methods, and adherence to permit-to-work systems.
  • Incident Reporting: Support timely reporting and investigation of incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions. Maintain incident logs and support root cause analysis.
  • Toolbox Talks and Awareness: Organize and conduct toolbox talks, site inductions, and daily safety briefings in coordination with site execution teams.
SECTION IV: KEY INTERACTIONS
Internal Stakeholders
  • EHS Manager / Site Leads: Receive direction, report findings, and support implementation of EHS plans.
  • Site Execution Teams: Ensure safety in daily operations, coordinate for toolbox talks.
External Stakeholders
  • Contractors / Workforce: Monitor and enforce EHS compliance at the work front.
  • Clients / PMCs: Assist during inspections, data collection, or on-ground support.
SECTION V: KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
KNOWLEDGE
  • Minimum Qualifications: ITI / Diploma/Bachelor in Engineering with Certificate/Diploma in Industrial Safety.
  • Language Skills: Working knowledge of English and local language for site-level communication.
Experience
  • Years of Experience: 3 – 15 years in EHS roles in construction/industrial project sites.
  • Nature of Experience: Hands-on safety implementation at site, and familiarity with audits, inspections, and toolbox talks.
