About the Role

We are looking for an analytical and initiative-taking Deputy Manager – Material Planning to own material planning for a defined set of brands and strategic accounts.Group Bayport operates a predominantly made-to-order custom manufacturing model across a high-SKU environment. That makes material planning the difference between an order shipping on time and a production line standing idle. The role is accountable for having the right materials available when production needs them, for holding inventory at the agreed norms, and for working closely with Procurement, Production Planning and Operations so that plans translate into actual availability on the floor.

Position details

Designation: Deputy Manager – Material PlanningFunction: Supply Chain Management – Centralised Material PlanningReporting to: Deputy General Manager – Supply Chain PlanningLocation: Gandhinagar, GujaratExperience: 6 – 10 years

Key ResponsibilitiesPlanning ownership
  • Own the material plan end to end for assigned brands and strategic accounts.
  • Build material requirement plans from sales orders, customer forecasts, and production schedules.
  • Convert requirements into purchase requisitions and release them to Procurement with the correct priority and timing.
  • Maintain planning parameters in the ERP — reorder levels, safety stock, lead times, and material master data.
Material availability and risk
  • Ensure availability of all production inputs — textiles, printing media, inks, hardware, packaging, and consumables.
  • Review material availability against the production plan daily and flag risks before they affect output.
  • Track supplier lead times and elevate slippage to Procurement early enough to act on it.
  • Identify shortages and build contingency plans — alternate material, alternate source, or re-sequencing with Production Planning.
Inventory management
  • Hold inventory at agreed norms — neither short nor in excess.
  • Analyse consumption trends and recommend stocking strategy for fast-moving and critical materials.
  • Review inventory ageing and slow-moving or non-moving stock and drive corrective action.
  • Lead inventory optimisation initiatives without compromising service levels.
Coordination and reporting
  • Work closely with Sales, Production Planning, Procurement, Stores and Operations to ensure seamless material flow.
  • Participate in the S&OP cycle and support demand planning.
  • Publish daily, weekly, and monthly planning reports and KPIs.
  • Improve planning processes through data analysis and better use of the ERP.
Scope boundary

This role plans, triggers and tracks material requirements. Purchase order placement, supplier negotiation and vendor follow-up sit with Procurement. The planner is accountable for raising the right requirement at the right time and for escalating risk; Procurement is accountable for the buy.

What success looks like in the first 90 days
  • Material plans running for all assigned accounts without manual workarounds.
  • A daily, published view of which materials are at risk and what is being done about them.
  • Planning parameters in the ERP accurate, complete, and actively maintained.
  • At least one measurable inventory improvement delivered and evidenced.
Key Performance Indicators
  • Material availability for production (%)
  • Production stoppages attributable to material shortage
  • Inventory turns and inventory days of cover.
  • Inventory record accuracy.
  • Excess, slow-moving and obsolete inventory as a percentage of total.
  • Planning accuracy — requirement plan against actual consumption
  • Purchase requisitions raised on or before the planned date
  • Inventory carrying cost.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • MBA or PGDM in Operations or Supply Chain Management preferred.
Experience
  • 6 to 10 years in material planning, production planning, supply chain, or inventory management.
  • Manufacturing background preferred — signage, printing, textiles, packaging or similar.
  • Experience in a high-SKU or made-to-order environment is a strong advantage.
  • Experience planning across multiple brands or business lines is an advantage.
Technical Skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Material Requirement Planning (MRP).
  • Firsthand experience with an ERP system — SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics or equivalent.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel — pivot tables, lookup functions, dashboards, and modelling.
  • Comfortable analysing consumption patterns and demand data to reach a recommendation.
Competencies
  • Analytical, with a bias for working from data rather than assumption.
  • Organised, and able to carry several priorities without dropping any of them.
  • Communicates clearly across functions and manages stakeholders well.
  • Takes ownership of outcomes rather than of tasks.
  • Strong diligence and comfortable working at pace.
Preferred Industry Experience
  • Signage manufacturing
  • Digital and large format printing
  • Textile manufacturing
  • Packaging
  • Custom or made-to-order manufacturing
