Job summary

Tata AutoComp in India seeks a Tooling Procurement & Sourcing specialist to manage supplier development for plastic injection tooling. You will lead RFQ activities, negotiate costs, and ensure on-time delivery of molds and related tooling.

Collaboration with engineering and program management is essential to meet project milestones. The role requires coordinating with tool makers, performing supplier audits, and driving cost-reduction initiatives while maintaining quality standards such as IATF

Qualifications

• Support APQP, tool design reviews, and production readiness activities.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Engineering, Design, Program Management, and Tool Makers for new tool development.
• Monitor tool manufacturing progress and ensure on-time completion per milestones.
• Participate in tool trials, validation activities, and technical reviews.
• Maintain tooling inventory and asset records, including tooling history.
• Manage supplier relationships and resolve commercial/technical issues to avoid delays.

Role & responsibilities :

Tooling Procurement & Sourcing

• Identify, evaluate, and develop tooling suppliers for plastic injection molds and related manufacturing tools.


• Manage RFQ (Request for Quotation) activities, cost comparison, supplier negotiation, and finalization of tooling orders.


• Ensure procurement of molds, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and auxiliary tooling at optimum cost, quality, and delivery terms.


• Conduct supplier capability assessments and audits for tooling vendors.

New Project Tool Development

• Coordinate with Engineering, Design, Program Management, and Tool Makers for new tool development activities.


• Monitor tool manufacturing progress and ensure on-time tool completion as per project milestones.


• Participate in Technical Reviews, Tool Design Reviews, Tool Trials, and Validation activities.


• Track APQP requirements related to tooling development.

Cost Management

• Negotiate tooling costs, commercial terms, and payment milestones with suppliers.


• Drive cost reduction initiatives through value engineering and alternate supplier development.


• Prepare tooling investment proposals and cost-benefit analyses.

Supplier Management

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with tool makers and plastic commodity suppliers.


• Monitor supplier performance on Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Development (QCDD) parameters.


• Resolve commercial and technical issues with suppliers to avoid project delays.

Tool Maintenance & Asset Management

• Maintain tooling inventory and records, including tool ownership and asset tracking.


• Coordinate with suppliers and production teams for tool modifications, repairs, refurbishment, and preventive maintenance.


• Ensure proper documentation of tool transfers, validation reports, and tooling history.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure tooling suppliers comply with automotive quality standards such as IATF 16949 and ISO 9001.


• Support PPAP, trial runs, mold validation, and production readiness activities.


• Ensure adherence to company procurement policies and customer requirements.
