Job summary

United Way Mumbai is seeking a Deputy Manager to oversee education projects for school‑aged children, coordinating with schools and diverse stakeholders to strengthen processes and improve learning quality in low‑income communities.

The role requires a Master’s degree in Social Sciences/ Management (Education preferred) with at least 6 years in project design and on‑ground implementation, strong communication, and travel willingness to manage partnerships and deliver results.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Sciences/ Management (specialization in Education will be preferred).
• Minimum of 6 years of work experience—especially in project design, on-ground implementation; experience in education preferred.
• Dynamic and versatile; able to connect with internal and external stakeholders.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, and presentation skills.
• Efficient in community outreach and mobilization.
• Languages: English and Hindi proficiency; Marathi is a plus.
• Willingness to travel for program activities.

Responsibilities

• Oversee activities and deliverables of United Way Mumbai’s education-related projects.
• Create a weekly execution plan aligned with project timelines.
• Identify sector expert organizations and partners for project components.
• Manage project team in responsibilities, development, and monitoring of KRAs.
• Liaise with government agencies, private agencies, NGOs and civil society groups to manage partnerships.
• Develop knowledge on project causes and guide project partners.
• Document project activities and submit status reports to the donor on timelines.
• Handle financial reconciliation and reporting of project activities.

Job Overview

The Deputy Manager will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of United Way Mumbai’s education projects for school‑aged children. The role involves working with schools and varied stakeholders, strengthening processes, monitoring and evaluation to improve the quality of learning among children. We are looking for a team member who is passionate about enhancing education opportunities for children in low‑income communities.

Job Responsibilities

• Manage activities, deliverables of United Way Mumbai’s education-related projects
• Create a specific plan for the execution of projects on a weekly basis in alignment with the overall project timelines
• Identify sector expert organizations/ agencies and firm up partnerships with relevant stakeholders (from government, private agencies, NGOs, etc.) for the execution of the project components
• Manage the project team in terms of division of responsibilities, development, and monitoring of their Key Result/ Performance Areas
• Liaise, communicate, interact effectively and manage partnerships with the internal and external stakeholders of the project such as; Government agencies (MCGM, School authorities etc.), private Players (various expert agencies working on the project), civil society groups (NGOs, citizens groups, etc.)
• Develop/ possess detailed knowledge on the project causes and be able to guide the project team and give inputs to all the project partners
• Document the project activities and outcomes on regular basis and submit the project status reports to the donor as per the committed timelines
• Financial reconciliation and reporting of the project activities

Profile Requisites

• Master’s degree in Social Sciences/ Management (specialization in Education will be preferred)
• Minimum of 6 years of work experience- especially in project design, on‑ground implementation of the project, etc. Any background or experience of working in the field of education will be preferred.
• A dynamic and versatile person who can easily connect and effectively work with internal and external stakeholders of the project
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, and presentation skills
• Efficient in community outreach and mobilization
• Languages: Proficient in English and Hindi (proficiency in Marathi will be an added advantage)
• The candidate must be a team player and should be willing to travel for implementing program activities

Remuneration

Subject to relevant qualification, experience & merit; the salary range is INR 8 LPA to 12.4 LPA.
