Responsibilities

  • HSE governance: Develop an occupational safety management system aligned with ISO 45001 across hydro PSP sites.
  • Conduct safety audits, identify gaps, and close observations with site teams.
  • Update HIRA framework based on incidents and site observations; develop Fatality Prevention Plans.
  • Lead incident investigations and derive corrective actions; share learnings across sites.
  • Organize training on emergency response, equipment handling, and safety compliance.
  • Conduct competency assessments for site employees and contractors.
  • Lead safety engagement initiatives and organize safety events to promote best practices.
  • Maintain safety scorecards and MIS reports; track progress with senior management.

Job Purpose: Lead - Safety (Hydro PSP) is responsible for leading and manage the safety operations for the Hydro PSP (Pumped Storage Projects), ensuring the implementation of safety standards and systems to mitigate risks. The role involves monitoring safety compliance across hydro sites, conducting risk assessments, and providing safety leadership to reduce incidents and improve safety performance within the hydro sector.

Responsibilities

HSE Governance and Compliance:

Develop a comprehensive occupational health and safety management system aligned with ISO 45001:2018, tailored to the specific risks and operational requirements of hydro PSP sites, and ensure its consistent implementation.

Conduct detailed safety audits, identify compliance gaps, and work collaboratively with site teams to close observations, ensuring adherence to both statutory and group-level safety standards.

Risk Management and Mitigation:

Regularly update the Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) framework based on incident learnings and site-specific observations to proactively address potential risks and hazards.

Develop and implement detailed Fatality Prevention Plans (FPP) for high-risk activities, ensuring the adoption of preventive measures to eliminate hazards before they escape.

Incident Prevention and Response:

Lead the investigation of incidents, near-misses, and unsafe acts, using root cause analysis methodologies to derive actionable insights and prevent recurrence of similar events.

Create comprehensive incident reports that include learnings and corrective actions, sharing these insights across all Hydro PSP sites to promote organizational awareness and continuous improvement.

Employee Training and Skill Development:

Organize specialized training sessions tailored to Hydro PSP operational risks, focusing on emergency response, equipment handling, and compliance with safety standards to enhance overall site readiness.

Conduct competency assessments for all site employees and contractors, ensuring they possess the necessary skills and knowledge to operate safely and effectively in their respective roles.

Safety Engagement Initiatives:

Lead safety awareness campaigns and engagement initiatives, such as safety townhalls, workshops, and community safety programs, to foster a culture of shared responsibility and proactive safety behavior.

Plan and execute safety-focused events, including National Safety Day and World Environment Day, to reinforce the organizations commitment to safety excellence and employee well‑being.

Reporting and MIS Management:

Maintain detailed safety scorecards and regularly update MIS systems with critical safety metrics, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to senior management.

Utilize digital tools and governance platforms to track compliance, monitor safety performance, and ensure seamless communication of key safety data across the organization.
