Job summary

PPL Pharma Inc. in Indore is seeking a Deputy Chief Manager - Utilities to oversee and optimize all utility systems across our pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities.

Lead a team of engineers, drive strategic plans for maintenance and upgrades, ensure uninterrupted supply of utilities, and maintain compliance with cGMP and FDA regulations while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• BE in Mechanical Engineering; API pharma experience preferred.
• 15–18 years of progressive utility operations experience in pharma or regulated industry.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, purified water, steam, compressed air, and industrial gases; familiarity with cGMP and FDA guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Chief Manager in developing and implementing strategic plans for utility infrastructure upgrades, maintenance, and expansion projects.
• Supervise and lead a team of engineers and technicians responsible for day‑to‑day operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of utility systems (HVAC, PW, steam, compressed air, nitrogen).
• Ensure continuous and reliable utility supply to support manufacturing, minimizing downtime and interruptions.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs, SOPs, and emergency response plans for utility systems.
• Monitor utility consumption and identify energy efficiency improvements and cost-saving opportunities.
• Oversee procurement and inventory management of spare parts and consumables for utility equipment.
• Ensure operations comply with cGMP, FDA and other regulatory standards; conduct audits and inspections.
• Manage vendor relationships for utility services, equipment, and maintenance contracts.

This role involves assisting the Chief Manager in strategic planning, project execution, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

Job Responsibilities:**

• Assist the Chief Manager in developing and implementing strategic plans for utility infrastructure upgrades, maintenance, and expansion projects.
• Supervise and lead a team of engineers and technicians responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of utility systems (HVAC, purified water, steam, compressed air, nitrogen, etc.).
• Ensure the continuous and reliable supply of all utilities to support manufacturing operations, minimizing downtime and production interruptions.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and emergency response plans for utility systems.
• Monitor utility consumption, identify areas for energy efficiency improvements, and implement cost-saving initiatives.
• Oversee the procurement and inventory management of spare parts and consumables for utility equipment.
• Ensure all utility operations comply with cGMP, FDA, and other relevant regulatory requirements and internal quality standards.
• Conduct regular audits and inspections of utility systems to identify potential risks and ensure operational integrity.
• Manage vendor relationships for utility services, equipment, and maintenance contracts.
• Prepare detailed reports on utility performance, budgets, and project progress for senior management.
• Mentor and train junior staff, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Job Qualifications:**

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering in API manufacture preferred.
• Minimum of 15 to 18 years of progressive experience in managing utility operations within a pharmaceutical manufacturing or other highly regulated industrial environment.
• Proven experience with HVAC systems, purified water generation and distribution, steam generation, compressed air systems, and industrial gases.
• Strong understanding of cGMP regulations, FDA guidelines, and other relevant industry standards.
• Demonstrated leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
• Proficiency in utility monitoring software, CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems), and project management tools.
• Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Certification in relevant utility systems or project management is a plus.
