Job summary

Johnson Controls Ltd is seeking a Datacenter Application Engineer (Software) to lead global BMS engineering projects for datacenter environments. You will own projects end-to-end, ensuring quality and adherence to data center processes while coordinating with stakeholders for timely delivery.

The role requires hands-on software engineering for DDC controllers, integration of BACnet/Modbus, and support during commissioning, with on-site and remote involvement across multiple locations.

Qualifications

• BE/ME in Instrumentation/Electrical/EC with hands-on software scope for Datacenter projects.
• Experience with data center mechanical/electrical systems and instrumentation.
• Knowledge of network protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LON, OPC) and integration with BMS.

Responsibilities

• Lead global BMS engineering projects through full lifecycle, ensuring compliance with specs and standards.
• Perform software simulations, validation reports, and prepare commissioning packages (FAT/FWT/SAT).
• Provide on-site/remote commissioning support and liaise with stakeholders for RFI and progress tracking.

BMS Software Design - Datacenter Application Engineer (Software) - Datacenter

What you will do The primary responsibility of this role is to lead global Data Center Building Management System (BMS) engineering projects, ensuring compliance with project specifications, customer requirements, and account-specific standards. The role requires independent ownership and execution of projects throughout the entire lifecycle, while serving as the first point of escalation for technical and project-related issues. Ensure adherence to data center-specific engineering and project execution processes, maintain high quality standards through a "First Time Right" approach, and deliver projects on schedule to achieve operational excellence and maximize customer satisfaction.

How you will do it

Review project inputs like MEP drawings and engineering submittal to generate following deliverables for systems covered into Datacenter Project Configuration of software program for supervisory and DDC level controllers Perform simulation of software and validation reports to prepare for software commissioning package delivery Prepare FAT, FWT and SAT test script for validation of software Provide demo sessions to end customer for functionality check of software Optimize database with Trend, Alarm, Point COV management Coordinate with all stakeholders for clarification on RFI’s & progress tracking Perform FWT test at factory location Provide remote / onsite support for site commissioning activities Provide remote commissioning support to site team for troubleshooting issues, control loop tunning and guide site team with test script Perform 3rd party controller integration with different communication protocols like BACnet IP, Modbus and troubleshoot issues with help of software like wireshark, ModScan etc. Ensure quality assurance and defect free software package delivery Adherence with all processes and guidelines to execute project within timeline During pre-bid stage support sales team for providing/validating controls solution for systems into Datacenter project.

What we look for

BE/ME (Instrumentation / Electrical/ Electronics / Electronics & Communication Hands on experience with Software Engineering scope for Datacenter Vertical Good Understanding of Data Centre mechanical / electrical systems with expertise for instrumentation and control Able to handle complex programming for systems like chilled water system, CDU, CRAH, CRAC, AHU with redundancy requirement at equipment or DDC level Knowledge of HVAC systems from Datacenter vertical like Chilled Water System, Cooling Towers, Primary & Secondary pumping systems, Fluid Coolers, Heat Exchanger, CRAH, CRAC, CDU, Different types of AHUs, FCUs, VAV systems etc. Strong knowledge of BMS architecture with different types of Operator workstations, Supervisory Controllers, DDC controllers, Sensors & Actuators etc. Good understanding Network topology and architecture Knowledge of different types of network protocols like BACNet, LON, Modbus, OPC, and other protocols Able to handle Modbus, BACnet IP/MSTP integration Must be proficient in wiring of starters, field devices, safety interlocks & panels Experience in engineering, installing and commissioning of HVAC & BMS systems for Datacenter projects or other infrastructure projects like pharmaceuticals, airports, commercial buildings, hospitals Must be a quick learner & should have a keen eye for problem solving Proficient in written and verbal communication Ability to demonstrate good leadership skills Preferred 4 to 8 years of relevant experience in Building Automation Industry Datacenter Vertical, BMS Design Engineering or Industrial Automation.
