Job summary

We are hiring an experienced Database Geologist for a reputed mining organization in Africa. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining, validating and managing geological, exploration and drilling databases and ensuring accurate, reliable geological data for modelling, resource estimation and technical reporting.

Ideal candidates have 5–10 years in mining, strong database-management skills, QA/QC and data validation, and proficiency in ArcGIS, Excel and MS Access.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years in mining/mineral exploration.
• Proven Geological Database Management.
• Experience handling drilling, assays, sampling.
• QA/QC and data validation expertise.
• ArcGIS / GIS and spatial data experience.
• Excel and MS Access advanced skills.
• Exposure to acQuire, maxGeo, DataShed, SABLE, Datamine.
• Power BI exposure is a plus.
• Bachelor's or Master's in Geology/Geoscience.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain geological, exploration, drilling, geochemical and geophysical databases.
• Manage drill-hole, collar, survey, sampling, assay and logging data.
• Perform QA/QC and data validation to ensure accuracy.
• Supervise import, validation and export of geological data.
• Identify and correct errors in historical data.
• Prepare geological surface maps and cross-sections using ArcGIS.
• Maintain databases and reports using Excel and MS Access.
• Produce daily, weekly and monthly geological/database reports.
• Coordinate with exploration teams, laboratories and management.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, organize and maintain geological, exploration, drilling, geochemical and geophysical databases.
• Manage drill-hole, collar, survey, sampling, assay and geological logging data.
• Perform QA/QC and geological data validation to maintain database accuracy and integrity.
• Supervise the import, validation and export of geological data.
• Identify, investigate and correct errors in historical geological logging and survey data.
• Maintain reliable geological datasets for resource modelling and technical reporting.
• Prepare geological surface maps and cross-sections using ArcGIS.
• Maintain databases and reports using Excel and MS Access.
• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly geological/database reports.
• Coordinate with exploration geologists, drilling teams, laboratories and management for accurate geological data flow.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in mining and/or mineral exploration.
• Strong hands-on experience in Geological Database Management.
• Experience handling drilling, assay, sampling, survey and geological data.
• Strong understanding of Geological QA/QC and data validation.
• Experience with ArcGIS / GIS and spatial geological data.
• Advanced working knowledge of Excel / MS Access.
• Hands-on exposure to one or more geological database/software packages such as acQuire, maxGeo, DataShed, SABLE, Datamine or equivalent.
• Power BI exposure will be an advantage.
• Bachelor's / Master's Degree in Geology, Geoscience or related discipline.

Preferred Candidate

Candidates currently working as Database Geologist, Senior Database Geologist, Geological Database Geologist, Exploration Geologist, Mining Geologist, Geoscientist or Geological Data Specialist with strong geological database-management responsibilities will be preferred.

Candidates with previous Africa / international mining experience will have an added advantage.
