About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Database Design and Development Engineer to design, develop, optimize, and scale enterprise-grade database systems.
The role requires strong hands-on expertise in PostgreSQL and Oracle, with a focus on database performance, scalability, high availability, migration, and infrastructure automation.
The candidate will work closely with application, infrastructure, DevOps, and engineering teams to build reliable, scalable, and high-performance database solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL and Oracle database environments.
- Perform database performance tuning and query optimization using execution plans and database performance analysis tools.
- Design and implement indexing, partitioning, storage, and data-management strategies for large-scale workloads.
- Configure database resources to support vertical and horizontal scalability.
- Implement connection pooling, replication, and read-scaling for high-concurrency applications.
- Design and maintain high-availability and automated failover architectures.
- Manage and support Oracle RAC, Active Data Guard, and PostgreSQL replication/HA solutions.
- Design partitioning and sharding strategies for large and multi-terabyte datasets.
- Support Oracle-to-PostgreSQL database migration, including assessment, conversion, and validation.
- Optimize database storage and logging, including tablespaces, WAL, redo logs, and archive logs.
- Deploy and manage database infrastructure using Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, and database operators.
- Monitor database performance, capacity, availability, and health, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define database architecture, scalability, and reliability requirements.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- B.Tech / B.E. in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, along with a relevant Database Certification.
- 56 years of hands-on experience in database design, development, administration, and performance optimization.
- Strong practical expertise in PostgreSQL and Oracle.
- Proficiency in SQL and PL/SQL, with a solid understanding of database architecture and query optimization.
- Strong knowledge of indexing, partitioning, replication, and database performance tuning.
- Experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, and PostgreSQL high-availability/replication concepts.
- Experience with Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration and migration tools such as AWS SCT or ora2pg.
- Working knowledge of database scaling, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery.
- Experience with infrastructure automation using Terraform, Ansible, or Kubernetes.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with application, infrastructure, DevOps, and engineering teams.
Preferred / Additional Expertise
- Experience managing large-scale or multi-terabyte database environments.
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL extensions such as TimescaleDB or PostGIS.
- Experience with PgBouncer for PostgreSQL connection management.
- Exposure to Citus or application-level sharding.
- Experience with PostgreSQL HA technologies such as Patroni, etcd, or similar solutions.
- Experience with Kubernetes-based database deployments, including CloudNativePG or similar operators.
- Exposure to cloud-based database infrastructure.
- Experience designing zero/minimal-downtime database architectures.
- Understanding of enterprise database capacity planning and infrastructure scalability.
