Experience: 810 Years Location: Bangalore/Pune/Chennai/Gurgaon/Kolkata Employment Type: [Full-time] Department: [Healthcare IT / Data Engineering / Interoperability]
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced FHIR Data Modeler and Healthcare Data Profiling Specialist with 8-10 years of experience in healthcare data management, interoperability standards, and data quality analysis. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in designing FHIR-compliant data models, profiling and assessing the quality of complex healthcare datasets, and translating clinical and administrative data requirements into scalable, standards-based data architectures.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) data models, including custom profiles, extensions, and implementation guides aligned with HL7 FHIR R4/R5 standards.
- Perform healthcare data profiling to assess data quality, completeness, consistency, and conformance across clinical, claims, and administrative datasets.
- Collaborate with data architects, and engineering teams to map source data (EHR, claims, lab, HL7 v2, CCDA) into FHIR resources.
- Define and enforce data governance standards, including terminology mapping (e.g., SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10, RxNorm, CPT).
- Conduct source-to-target mapping and gap analysis between legacy healthcare data models and FHIR-based target architectures.
- Validate FHIR resource instances against defined profiles using tools such as HAPI FHIR, Inferno, or FHIR Validator.
- Work closely with interoperability and integration teams to support HL7 v2 to FHIR, CCDA to FHIR, and claims (X12) to FHIR transformations.
- Document data models, mapping specifications, and data dictionaries for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support compliance initiatives related to CMS Interoperability Rules, and other regulatory mandates.
- Partner with QA and data engineering teams to build automated data profiling and validation pipelines.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior data modelers/analysts on FHIR standards and best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
- 8-10 years of overall experience in healthcare data management, data modeling, or data engineering roles.
- Strong hands-on experience with HL7 FHIR (STU3/R4/R5) — resource design, profiling, extensions, and implementation guides.
- Proven expertise in healthcare data profiling techniques — identifying anomalies, duplicates, missing values, and standardization issues in clinical/administrative data.
- Working knowledge of healthcare data standards: HL7 v2, CCDA, X12 (837/835), DICOM (nice to have).
- Familiarity with clinical terminologies: SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-9/10, CPT, RxNorm, NDC.
- Experience with FHIR tooling: HAPI FHIR, Firely .NET SDK, IBM FHIR Server, Microsoft FHIR Server, Inferno Validator.
- Strong understanding of data governance, master data management (MDM), and data quality frameworks in healthcare.
- Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (Python, Java, or C#) for data transformation and profiling scripts.
- Experience with cloud healthcare data platforms (e.g., Azure Health Data Services, AWS HealthLake, Google Cloud Healthcare API) is a strong plus.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulatory frameworks: HIPAA, ONC Cures Act, CMS Interoperability & Patient Access Rule, TEFCA.
- Excellent communication skills to work with cross-functional teams including clinical SMEs, architects, and compliance teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, Information Systems, or a related field.
- HL7 FHIR certification (e.g., HL7 FHIR Proficiency Certification) is a plus.
- Prior experience working with EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, Allscripts) or payer/claims data platforms.
- Experience with data profiling/quality tools such as Informatica, Talend, Great Expectations, or similar.
- Exposure to Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
