Job summary

Convatec is building a data function and data governance is central to that build. This role will support the business by making data findable, traceable and trustworthy across domains such as finance, commercial, CRM and supply chain.

The Data Governance Analyst will establish new processes, collaborate with data owners and governance sponsors, and help embed governance, quality, and metadata standards at scale.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in Data Governance, Data Quality, or Data Management in large organisations.
• Hands-on experience with two of: Business Glossary, Data Catalogue, Data lineage or Data Quality.
• Experience with Microsoft Purview is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Build, populate and maintain enterprise business glossary and data catalogue in Purview.
• Engage data owners and SMEs to agree definitions and enforce metadata standards.
• Capture and maintain end-to-end lineage for critical data elements.
• Establish change impact analysis to warn downstream reports of upstream changes.
• Profile data, perform root cause analysis and manage data quality issues end to end.

Job description

ConvaTec is building a data function and data governance is central to that build. This is a critical delivery role within it. This role will contribute to making Convatec’s data findable, traceable and trustworthy.

Working with the business the Data Governance Analyst will support core elements of our data governance capability – the business glossary and data catalogue in Microsoft Purview, data lineage and a data quality framework that moves us from finding problems in reports to preventing them at source.

Our governance capability is being stood up from the ground up so the candidate will be comfortable establishing new processes and artefacts and equally comfortable with business stakeholders to get them adopted with the support of data leadership.

About Role

• Build, populate and maintain the enterprise business glossary and data catalogue in Microsoft Purview (for example Finance & FP&A, Commerial, CRM, Supply Chain).
• Administer the tooling so catalogue does not decay after go-live.
• Engage data owners, stewards and subject matter experts to agree and publish common definitions for critical data elements, resolving conflicting versions to a single agreed source, and enforcing the metadata standards that make catalogue entries genuinely usable.
• Capture and maintain end-to-end lineage for critical data elements across the full pipeline and documented in a form both engineers and business stakeholders can act on.
• Establish change impact analysis so that upstream source change identifies and warns the affected downstream reports, models and consumers in advance.
• Data Quality
• Work with business data owners and governance sponsors to translate business risk into testable data quality rules across the recognized dimensions, and implement them as automated, monitored checks with dashboards, agreed thresholds and a defined exception route.
• Profile data, lead root cause analysis on quality issues through to conclusion with measurable outcomes and manage data quality issues log end to end.
• Support the shift from reactive reconciliation to preventative controls applied at the point of capture or ingestion.
• Governance Framework, Stewardship and Adoption
• Data Cataloguing and Metadata Management
• Support the implementation of the data governance framework, policies and standards, producing clear, user-friendly documentation and guidance that the business will use.
• Help embed the ownership and stewardship model.
• Contribute to governance KPIs and KRIs.

About You

• Proven experience (typically 3+ years) in Data Governance, Data Quality, Data Management or a closely adjacent role in a large or complex organization.
• Demonstratable hands-on experience of at least two of: Business Glossary, Data Catalogue, Data lineage or Data Quality
• Experience with Microsoft Purview is desirable
• Practical experience implementing or configuring a data governance or cataloguing tool.
• Proven ability to bridge business and technology.
• Experience working in S4/Hana or SAP environment
• Experience in a regulated industry
• Experience with dedicated data quality or observability tooling
• Exposure to master and reference data management

Education/ Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering), or equivalent practical experience
