Role Summary
CBIZ is seeking a hands‑on Senior Data Engineer to join our enterprise data and analytics team. This role will be responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and supporting scalable data pipelines, data warehouse and Lakehouse solutions, and governing data assets that enable enterprise reporting, analytics, and business intelligence initiatives. The Senior Data Engineer will partner closely with U.S.-based data, analytics, technology, and business stakeholders and will be expected to work independently, communicate clearly, and provide strong technical ownership across distributed teams.
- 10-15 years of experience in US Corporate Tax (Form 1120) compliance and review.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines, data warehouses, Lakehouse’s, and curated data models that support enterprise reporting, analytics, and business intelligence solutions.
- Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SQL, ETL, and ELT processes to ensure data accuracy, performance, reliability, and repeatability across production data environments.
- Partner with architects, BI developers, analysts, data governance teams, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into reliable, well-documented technical solutions.
- Perform root cause analysis and resolve complex data quality, refresh, performance, integration, and production support issues.
- Design and implement data validation, reconciliation, monitoring, and exception-handling processes to improve trust in enterprise data assets.
- Contribute to engineering standards for SQL development, source control, deployment, documentation, testing, and ongoing support.
- Participate in code reviews, release planning, testing, production deployments, and CI/CD practices within an agile delivery environment.
- Document data flows, transformation logic, technical design decisions, dependencies, and operational support procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with global teams across India and U.S. time zones, including maintaining reasonable overlap with U.S.-based stakeholders as business needs require.
- Mentor and support other team members by sharing technical knowledge, promoting best practices, and helping strengthen overall data engineering capabilities.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of related experience in data engineering, database development, data warehousing, analytics engineering, or a similar technical role.
- Demonstrated ability to design, build, support, and optimize reliable data pipelines and analytical data structures in a production environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of SQL, relational databases, data integration patterns, cloud data platforms, and enterprise analytics environments.
- Experience with Power BI semantic models, data modeling for BI consumption, Microsoft Purview, Python, PySpark, APIs, or automation frameworks.
- Ability to formulate, document, and recommend technical standards, procedures, and improvements that support scalable and governed data delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of an organization, both internally and externally.
- Ability to work independently in an India-based role while collaborating with U.S.-based stakeholders and distributed project teams.
- Ability to support business-critical production processes, participate in issue resolution, and provide on-call or after-hours support as required by business needs.
- Ability to travel as required by business needs.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, or similar cloud data platforms.
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, star schemas, slowly changing dimensions, data marts, and curated analytical data layers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced SQL development experience, including query optimization, stored procedures, views, indexing strategies, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated experience with ETL/ELT pipeline design, data integration, data transformation, data validation, and production support.
- Experience working with source control, Azure DevOps or similar work management tools, CI/CD processes, deployment pipelines, and structured release practices.
- Experience supporting data governance, data quality, metadata, lineage, access control, or enterprise reporting standards.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex data issues independently and communicate findings, risks, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across global and cross-functional teams.
- Experience in professional services, finance, accounting, advisory, insurance, benefits, technology, or another regulated business environment is a plus.
