Job summary

i2b technologies pvt ltd in Hyderabad is seeking a hands-on Database Platform Engineer to own PostgreSQL on AWS end-to-end, keeping the databases fast, reliable and secure at high concurrency as the product scales.

You will design and test backups, implement zero-downtime migrations, build data pipelines (ETL/ELT, CDC) with Python and SQL, and automate deployments with Terraform or CloudFormation while monitoring with CloudWatch and Grafana.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on PostgreSQL administration in production.
• Strong experience with AWS RDS or Aurora PostgreSQL: parameter groups, Multi-AZ, read replicas, snapshots and upgrades.
• Proven experience with backup, PITR and restore, plus performance tuning and lock troubleshooting under high concurrency.
• Experience delivering zero-downtime schema changes and data migrations.
• Infrastructure as code with Terraform or CloudFormation.
• CI/CD for database changes (Flyway, Liquibase, GitHub Actions, Jenkins or AWS CodePipeline).
• Strong SQL plus scripting in Python and Bash; comfortable on Linux.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Tune performance using execution plans and monitoring tools; manage indexes and vacuuming.

• Review database designs for performance, integrity and security.
• Build and maintain data pipelines (ETL/ELT, CDC) using Python, SQL and AWS services.
• Move data between transactional databases, event streams and analytics stores.
• Provision and manage database infrastructure as code with Terraform/CloudFormation.
• Automate database deployments through CI/CD pipelines using Flyway or Liquibase.
• Set up monitoring, alerting and dashboards with CloudWatch and Grafana; lead incident analysis.
• Enforce database security: access control, encryption, auditing and secrets management.
• Automate routine operations with Bash and Python scripts.

We are a fast-growing technology startup preparing new products for production. We're looking for a hands-on Database Platform Engineer to own our PostgreSQL databases on AWS end to end: keeping them fast, reliable and secure at high concurrency, building the data pipelines that feed them, and automating how they are deployed and changed. You'll work closely with our principal engineer and backend team, and your decisions will shape the platform as it scales.

Key responsibilities

Database administration

• Own PostgreSQL on AWS RDS / Aurora in production, including high availability, replication and failover.
• Design and test backup and point-in-time recovery to meet defined RPO and RTO targets.
• Tune performance using execution plans, pg_stat_statements and Performance Insights; manage indexes, partitions, vacuum and bloat.
• Configure RDS parameter groups and connection pooling (PgBouncer / RDS Proxy) for high-concurrency workloads.
• Plan and run zero-downtime schema changes, data migrations and major version upgrades.
• Review database designs from developers for performance, integrity and security.

Data engineering

• Build and maintain data pipelines (ETL/ELT, CDC) using Python, SQL and AWS services.
• Move data reliably between transactional databases, event streams and analytics stores.

DevOps and automation

• Provision and manage database infrastructure as code with Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Automate database deployments through CI/CD pipelines using Flyway or Liquibase.
• Set up monitoring, alerting and dashboards with CloudWatch and Grafana; lead incident response and root-cause analysis.
• Enforce database security: access control, encryption, auditing and secrets management.
• Automate routine operations with Bash and Python scripts.

Must-have Skills
