Job summary

Commonwealth Bank of Australia in Bengaluru seeks a Senior Data Engineer to own end-to-end data flows, governance, and analytics-driven outcomes. You will work with platform, risk, partnership, and technology teams to deliver data products and insights that support lending, risk, and customer experiences.

The role requires hands-on experience with Data Warehouse/ETL concepts, strong SQL skills (T-SQL), and expertise with Snowflake, DBT, and BI tools like Power BI.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Data Warehouse/ETL concepts.
  • Proficient in high-quality SQL (T-SQL) and large datasets.
  • Experience with Snowflake, DBT, and SSRS or equivalent reporting tools.
  • Strong data sourcing knowledge for analytical needs and supporting data strategy.
  • Advanced ability to communicate insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in Agile environments and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct analysis to understand end-to-end data flow of the product.
  • Collaborate with Product Owner to align on prioritization.
  • Assess data risks and controls, and generate data quality assessments.
  • Identify critical data elements and capture metadata.
  • Map data flow and lineage from capture to consumption.
  • Define data quality thresholds and measurement rules.
  • Manage work streams with stakeholders and escalate when needed.
  • Contribute to data literacy, management, and quality improvements.

Our Retail Operations team oversees customer experiences in both secured and unsecured product categories, managing the entire loan process from credit decisioning to settlement for CBA and Bankwest brands.

Our customer service team provides round-the-clock support through messaging channels, ensuring seamless client engagement.

We are experts at crafting credit risk models and validating credit, AI and market models.

- The role involves working closely with multiple teams like platform, credit risk, partnership teams, technology and CDAO to deliver partnership offers. Passionate about customers and the opportunity to build trust and customer advocacy through data-driven insights.

Roles & Responsibilities

Conduct analysis to understand the E2E data flow of the product Liaise with Product owner to ensure the prioritization is set Undertake assessment of data risks and existing controls that mitigate these risks and generate data quality assessment Engage with stakeholders to understand their business and use the data management framework to identify critical data elements (CDEs) and capture sufficient metadata Undertake identification of detailed data flow & lineage from point of data capture to point of data consumptions Work with stakeholders to Identify rules for data quality measurement and develop thresholds Independently manage the work stream and the relationship with stakeholders with escalation to Line Manager as necessary Contribute to improvement of data literacy, data management and data quality

Essential Skills

Risk Mindset –All CommBank employees are expected to proactively identify and understand, openly discuss and act on current and future risks. 5-7 years Hands on experience on Data Warehouse/ETL concept Experience writing high quality, maintainable SQL, Stored procedures on large datasets – Specifically T-SQL Experience in writing stored procedures in Snowflake Experience in ELT tool such as DBT Knowledge in SSRS or equivalent reporting tool A good understanding of data sourcing for analytical needs through multiple tactical and strategic data sources, and supporting the data strategy of the bank Strong analytical, numerate and logical reasoning skills Strong attention to detail Implementing pipelines which deals with any format of data using CI/CD Advanced communication and engagement skills, with a collaborative style Ability to articulate complex analytical requirements and findings in common non-technical terms Experience of and/ or a desire to work within an Agile environment Flexible approach and able to deal with change and develop new ways of working to drive continuous improvement Python, Power BI – Good to have Ability to communicate insights and strategies both in writing and verbally Performance tuning and coding optimization techniques

Education Qualification

B.E. or B.Tech. or equivalent or post-graduation degree in Computer Applications or IT or Business Administration
