We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Data Centre Electrical Technician to join our 24/7 mission-critical operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily electrical and mechanical operations, maintenance, and overall health of our Data Centre facilities. You will play a vital role in ensuring maximum uptime, overseeing critical infrastructure (HVAC, UPS, Generators), managing third-party vendors, and driving process improvements to support our customers' hosting requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Infrastructure Management: Oversee the operation and maintenance of all electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including High Tension electrical equipment, power reticulation, distribution systems, UPS, battery systems, and generators.
- Maintenance Planning: Develop and execute comprehensive maintenance schedules for all critical components; manage facility repairs and general upkeep to maintain high operational standards.
- Vendor Management: Administer third-party service agreements, ensuring all contracted services are delivered timely and in strict accordance with contract specifications.
- Service Methodology: Uphold organizational standards for Incident, Problem, Change, and Capacity Management.
- Risk & Strategy: Identify infrastructure exposures, develop corrective action plans, and contribute to the long-term roadmap and strategy for critical infrastructure support.
- Operational Support: Provide active support for facility requirements, including managing standby schedules, responding to call-outs, and managing operations during load shedding or power outages.
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain up-to-date Data Centre documentation, ensure compliance with industry standards, and provide recommendations for upgrades and efficiency improvements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Grade 12
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Red Seal Trade Test and a valid Wireman’s License.
- Proven experience in Data Centre management and operations, specifically regarding electrical and mechanical systems.
- Expert-level knowledge of HVAC, UPS, Generators, power reticulation, and High-Tension electrical environments.
- Analytical Skills: Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities; capable of working in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
- Leadership & Communication: Demonstrated leadership capability, excellent vendor management skills, and superior written/verbal communication skills.
- Organizational Skills: Exceptional project management and organizational abilities to manage multiple competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA or a similar advanced tertiary qualification.
- Extensive experience with Data Centre infrastructure life-cycle management.
- Environment: This is a 24/7 mission-critical Data Centre environment.
- Availability: Must be available for standby schedules, emergency callouts, and response to power outages/load shedding events.
