Job description

Location: Remote, but you must be based in Pune (we'll meet up with the marketing team when a shoot or brainstorm needs it)

Type: Full-time

If you've ever watched a reel, hated the first three seconds, and rewritten the hook in your head, you belong here.

Most people scroll when a video loses them. You notice the exact second it happened, and you know why. We'd like to put that habit to work.

About us

Design Asylum is a branding, packaging and UI/UX studio based in Pune. We've spent 10+ years building brands and products for names like Puma, Kia and Axis Bank, with clients across India, the US and the Middle East.

We also make short-form video for our own channels and for client brands, from an edtech startup to an auto parts store in Canada. Some of it is faceless explainers cut over clips, some is street interviews, and some is a creator talking straight to camera. All of it starts with a script, and that's where you come in.

What you'll do
  • Write scripts for reels and shorts that run 30 to 90 seconds: voiceovers for faceless explainers, talking-head scripts for creators and founders, and question lists for street interviews
  • Win the first three seconds. Every script opens with a hook that makes someone stop scrolling, and you'll write five of them before we pick one.
  • Research before you write. If a reel says a number, a date or a name, you've checked it, because one wrong fact in the comments can sink a whole video.
  • Write for the edit, not just the ear. Mark where the clip, the text on screen and the cut go, so the editor isn't guessing.
  • Learn each brand's voice and stick to it. An exam-prep brand talking to UPSC aspirants and a friendly car-parts brand should never sound like the same person.
  • Turn boring topics into stories. Fitment charts, exam strategy, a sports stat: you find the angle that makes it worth 60 seconds.
  • Check which reels held attention and which ones people dropped off, and use that when you write the next batch
  • Come to the occasional shoot or planning session in Pune with the marketing team
What we're looking for
  • You watch reels like a student. You can explain why a hook worked, not just that it did.
  • You can write tight. If a line doesn't earn its two seconds, it goes.
  • You think in scenes, not paragraphs. You can picture the video while you write it.
  • You can switch between formats: a punchy explainer, a casual creator script, a set of street interview questions
  • You fact-check by habit
  • Strong written English, and Hindi or Hinglish when a brand calls for it
  • You can hear "the hook is weak" without taking it personally
  • You hit deadlines. The posting calendar doesn't wait for a script.
Nice-to-have
  • You run your own Instagram or YouTube channel and people actually watch it
  • You've written scripts for creators, ads or explainer videos
  • You know your way around a basic edit (CapCut, Premiere, anything) so you know what's possible
  • You follow sport, business or pop culture closely enough to spot a story before it trends
