Job summary

Alten India is seeking a Lead Controls Engineer for our Pune (Kharadi) location. The role requires 6-12 years of experience in control systems engineering, with deep expertise in Siemens TIA Portal and PLC programming.

You will design LLC control logic, develop test plans (FAT/SAT) and drive system integration across multiple zones. You will collaborate with project leads to manage risk, interfaces, and deliverables while mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Siemens TIA Portal proficiency with V17+ and project experience.
• SIMATIC AX knowledge is a plus (preferred).
• Strong programming in IEC 61131-3 (ST/SCL).
• Programming in Python, C# or MATLAB is preferred.
• Experience with VS Code, CODESYS or industrial edge management tools is an advantage.
• Mindset of re-use, standardization, validation and modularization.

Responsibilities

• Develop and configure LLC control logic using Siemens TIA Portal for medium to large-scale systems.
• Create, execute and manage FAT/SAT and interface validation test plans.
• Collaborate with project leads for risk identification and technical coordination.
• Own specific LLC work packages and mentor junior engineers.
• Apply IT networks, electromechanical components and safety system design to ensure integration accuracy.
• Deliver scope on time, within budget, with quality documentation.
• Support installation, testing and integration across zones and systems.

The following skill sets are required to manage key responsibilities and perform technical activities effectively

Skillset Required:

• Siemens TIA Portal: Proficient in TIA Portal V17 and above, with experience in project development, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
• Knowledge of SIMATIX AX (Preferred and not mandatory)
• Skills in high-level programming languages, preferably IEC 61131-3 (ST/SCL)
• Programming languages like Python, C# or MATLAB (Preferred and not mandatory)
• Visual Studio Code, CODESYS, and/or industrial edge management systems are an advantage.(Preferred and not mandatory)
• A strong mindset of re-use, standardization, validation and modularization.

• WinCC SCADA: Practical knowledge in WinCC SCADA for system visualisation and process monitoring.
• Advanced HMI Programming: Skilled in HMI screen design and scripting, including dynamic screen development and custom user interfaces.
• Diagnostic & Versioning Tools: Hands-on experience with Siemens Proneta for network diagnostics and version control, and backup management.
• Programming (Advanced): Understanding of SCL/STL Capable of understanding, modifying, and optimising code based on functional requirements.
• Communication Protocols: understanding of Profinet communication systems.
• Advanced PLC Techniques: Expertise in pointers and indirect addressing within Siemens PLC programming for flexible and scalable logic development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and configure complete LLC control logic and safety functions for medium to large-scale systems using Siemens TIA Portal
• Create, execute, and manage detailed test plans for FAT (Factory Acceptance Test), SAT (Site Acceptance Test), and interface validation.
• Collaborate closely with project leads for risk identification, interface control, and technical coordination.
• Take ownership of specific LLC work packages and guide junior engineers in task execution and deliverable quality.
• Apply a strong understanding of IT networks, electromechanical components, and safety system design to ensure integration accuracy.
• Deliver assigned scope on time, within budget, and with consistent quality and documentation standards.
• Support the installation, testing, and integration of equipment across multiple zones and systems.
• Identify technical and procedural gaps and actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Technical Responsibilities:

• Select solutions using standard modules, reusing standardised control logic blocks where applicable.
• Ensure adherence to engineering procedures, coding guidelines, and project documentation standards.
• Build, configure, generate, program, test, and document complex control applications and subsystems.
• Lead the start-up and commissioning of control systems independently, following the commissioning plan, and in consultation with the site supervisor and controls project leader.
• Report project progress, risks, and issues to the Project Leader, Engineering and Group Leader in a structured manner.
