Job summary

GE-Vernova- in Chennai seeks an engineer to develop application layer software for Drive controls in GE Power Conversion drives. You will define requirements, architecture, and validation for inverter drive systems and control architectures, while designing and testing operator interfaces (HMI) and system monitoring.

The role requires hands-on lab and customer-site work, autonomous problem solving, and collaboration within an Agile framework to deliver robust drive control solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering with minimum 2+ years of engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of C, C++, Python, MATLAB and Simulink.
• Ability to troubleshoot and identify coding structures to mitigate latency, performance, and maintainability.
• Medium-level experience in HMI screen development (design, implementation and testing).
• Knowledge and hands-on experience with industrial protocols (MODBUS, EGD, Fastlink, or similar).
• Willingness to work hands-on in test labs and at customer sites.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, take ownership of work, plan activities and anticipate issues.

This role requires strong technical execution, autonomous problem-solving, and proactive ownership of assigned work streams. You will work closely with internal and external customers, function as an inclusive team player with outcome focus, and operate within an Agile methodology.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

• Develop application layer software for Drive controls for GE Power Conversion drives.
• Define application requirements, architecture, specifications, and/or design and validation of inverter drive systems and auxiliary control architectures.
• Design, develop, and troubleshoot HMI screens for operator interfaces and system monitoring; ensure usability and alignment with customer requirements.
• Implement and integrate communication protocols (MODBUS, EGD, Fastlink, etc.) for device-to-device and system-level communication; troubleshoot protocol-related issues.
• Execute design, analysis, and evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements.
• Work autonomously on assigned tasks; proactively identify risks, plan activities, and elevate issues to manager or senior team members when guidance is needed.
• Document technical data generated by assigned projects consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
• Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments.
• Participate in teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues.
• Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Good understanding of C, C++, Python, MATLAB, and Simulink.

Desired Characteristics

• Master's degree in Power Electronics and Drive Controls.
• Drive control and PWM techniques; MATLAB circuit simulation.
