Job summary

Job Description

Consultant Surgical Gastroenterology is responsible for providing specialized surgical evaluation and management of diseases affecting the gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and related systems. The includes preoperative assessment, surgical planning, operative care, postoperative management, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.

• Conduct consultations for gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgical conditions.
• Obtain detailed medical and surgical histories.
• Perform comprehensive clinical assessments.
• Diagnose conditions requiring surgical gastroenterology management.
• Develop appropriate surgical and treatment plans.
• Review laboratory, endoscopy, imaging, pathology, and other diagnostic reports.
• Assess patients for surgical suitability and operative risks.
• Perform gastrointestinal and related surgical procedures within professional scope.
• Participate in elective and emergency gastrointestinal surgeries.
• Provide preoperative counselling and explain surgical options and risks.
• Coordinate with anesthesiologists, gastroenterologists, radiologists, oncologists, and other specialists.
• Manage postoperative complications and arrange appropriate interventions.
• Maintain accurate clinical and operative documentation.
• Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions.
• Support surgical audits, quality-improvement, and patient-safety initiatives.
• Maintain appropriate infection-control and surgical-safety practices.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and professional standards.
• Follow hospital surgical protocols and applicable professional guidelines.
