Job summary

PCI India invites a Consultant - Slum Development Swacchangini Coordinator for a 5-month project in Patna, Bihar. The role focuses on capacity building, community engagement, and coordinating interventions across slum areas to improve health, sanitation, and inclusion.

Prior urban slum development experience is required. You will collaborate with government stakeholders and project teams, support Swacchangini groups, and travel within the unit to work closely with communities under the UPAMA

About the Position

• Experience Required: Prior experience of working in projects related to urban slum development

Skills and Attributes

The Project

This component is a collaborative initiative supported by UNFPA and implemented in partnership with Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) under UPAMA project to promote inclusive, gender-responsive, and sustainable development in urban slums of Patna. The project aims to improve the quality of life of vulnerable urban communities through strengthened access to health and sanitation services, women s empowerment, community participation, and enhanced municipal service delivery. Special emphasis is placed on promoting gender equality, strengthening the capacities and welfare of sanitation workers (Swacchanginis), fostering community-led slum development, and leveraging innovation and partnerships to build resilient, healthy, and inclusive urban communities.

The Role

Support capacity building and community-based implementation of slum development initiatives with a focus on women s empowerment, sanitation workers welfare, citizen participation, gender equality, and improved access to health and sanitation services.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate implementation of slum-level interventions across project locations.


• Mobilize and strengthen Swacchangini groups, community institutions, and citizen representatives.


• Facilitate community meetings, awareness campaigns, and behaviour change activities on health, sanitation, gender, menstrual hygiene, and social inclusion.


• Support preparation and implementation of gender-responsive slum development plans.


• Coordinate activities promoting dignity, occupational safety, and livelihood opportunities for sanitation workers, especially women.


• Support training programmes for community representatives and local stakeholders.


• Collect, compile, and report field data, success stories, and other updates.


• Coordinate with PMC officials, ward councillors, frontline workers, NGOs, and community leaders to ensure effective implementation.


• Perform any other project-related responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
