Job summary

The Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) in New Delhi invites a Geospatial Analyst Consultant to join our Technology and AI focus area. You will analyze geospatial data, build automated workflows, and deliver informative map products using Python, GEE, and QGIS.

The role emphasizes developing scalable spatial insights for public policy projects, with collaboration across researchers and data scientists. 12‑month assignment with potential for full‑time conversion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, or related field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant geospatial data analysis experience.
  • Proficient in Python for geospatial analysis (Geopandas, Rasterio, Shapely, NumPy).
  • Strong QGIS proficiency for analysis, editing, and cartographic design.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and Git.
  • Understanding of Geo-AI and ML concepts (PCA, decision trees, random forest).
  • Good written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

  • Geospatial Data Analysis: Use QGIS, Python libraries, and Google Earth Engine for project questions.
  • GEE Development: Script large‑scale satellite imagery processing, time‑series analysis, env monitoring.
  • Python Automation: Create scripts to automate geospatial data workflows and conversions.
  • Desktop GIS Operations: Produce high‑quality cartographic outputs in QGIS.
  • Data Management: Acquire, process, QC diverse vector/raster geospatial data.
  • Visualization & Reporting: Create maps and reports communicating spatial patterns.
  • Collaboration: Work with project teams, data scientists, researchers and stakeholders.

Purpose

To support theorganization/project by performing geospatial data analysis, processing,visualization, and developing automated workflows using Python, Google EarthEngine (GEE), and QGIS. The Geospatial Analyst will contribute to variousprojects by transforming raw spatial data into actionable insights and creatinginformative map products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Geospatial DataAnalysis: Perform spatial analysis using QGIS, Python libraries (e.g.,Geopandas, Rasterio, Shapely), and Google Earth Engine to addressproject-specific questions.
  • Google Earth EngineDevelopment: Develop, test, and implement scripts in Google Earth Engine forlarge-scale satellite imagery processing, time-series analysis, andenvironmental monitoring tasks.
  • Python Scripting &Automation: Develop and maintain Python scripts to automate geospatial dataprocessing workflows, data cleaning, format conversions, and integration tasks.
  • Desktop GIS Operations:Utilize QGIS for data creation, editing, geoprocessing, management, andproduction of high-quality cartographic outputs.
  • Data Management:Acquire, process, manage, and ensure the quality control of various vector andraster geospatial datasets from diverse sources.
  • Visualization &Reporting: Create compelling maps, visualizations, and reports to communicatespatial patterns and analytical findings to technical and non-technicalaudiences.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with project teams, datascientists, researchers, and other stakeholders

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s orMaster’s degree in Computer Science (with relevant specialization),Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, or a closely relatedfield.
  • Experience: Minimum of1-3 years of relevant professional experience in a geospatial data analysisrole.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Core GIS Concepts: Solidunderstanding of fundamental GIS principles, including map projections,coordinate systems, spatial data formats (vector, raster), geodatabases, andremote sensing basics.
    • Python programming,specifically for geospatial analysis using libraries like Geopandas,Rasterio,Shapely, NumPy.
    • QGIS: Strong proficiencyin using QGIS for a wide range of GIS tasks, including advanced analysis, dataediting, and cartographic design.
    • Familiarity with cloudcomputing platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), Experience with version control systems(e.g., Git), Experience with web mapping libraries (e.g., Leaflet, Mapbox GLJS)
    • Understanding of Geo-AIand ML concepts like decision trees, random forest, PCA etc.
  • Analytical Skills:Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to interpretspatial data effectively.
  • Communication: Good written and verbal communication skills inEnglish
