Job summary

Northern Trust in Bangalore is seeking an experienced Data Engineer/Database Developer to design and deliver data architecture, BRD/HLD artifacts, and robust analytics pipelines.

You will translate business needs into technical specs, extract data, build dashboards, and ensure governance across data warehouse and BI layers, collaborating with stakeholders across Risk, IT and Compliance.

Qualifications

  • Master or bachelor in CS/IT/Data Analytics from a reputed institution.
  • 7-10 years experience as Data Engineer/DB Developer.
  • Proficient in SQL & PL/SQL with data warehousing knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Create BRD, HLD, process flows, and project artifacts for regulatory/audit needs.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specs and work with developers/stakeholders.
  • Extract data from systems, build data pipelines and address ad-hoc queries using SQL/PL/SQL.
  • Develop solutions that leverage Data Warehouse/BI infrastructure with governance.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance data value and track issues to resolution.

Major Duties
  • Create Detailed Business Requirement documents (BRD), High level design (HLD) documents, process flows, cost and resource estimates, project planning and implementation artifacts that support regulatory and audit requirements
  • Understand the business process, analyses the multiple data sources/systems, translate business requirements into technical specifications and subsequently work with technical developers / business stakeholders
  • Extract necessary data from systems, build processes and develop visualization dashboards and address any ad-hoc queries using SQL, PL/SQL and Power BI
  • Develop solutions that a) leverage/extend existing Data Warehouse & Business Intelligence and analytics infrastructure, b) are integrated with data governance and enterprise solutions, c) are scalable, repeatable and effective and d) follow agreed upon governance and technology policies
  • Identify opportunities for enhancing value proposition along with data chain and ensure issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner
  • Plan/Setup meetings with key stakeholders (Business, Risk, Compliance, IT), manage the meetings through a structured agenda and document discussions
  • Understand Data and Analytics projects both from a business & technical aspect and support the data analytics need of the department; participate in special projects as needed and perform other duties in line with priority
Qualification
  • Master/ bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Computer Applications, Data Analytics or a related field preferably from Tier 1 institution.
Skills Required
  • 7-10 years of experience as a Data Engineer/Database Developer in RDBMS like Oracle, SQL Server with data architecture/modelling skills
  • Experience in database development in SQL & PL/SQL is mandatory and conceptual understanding of data modelling and data warehousing is a must
  • Knowledge of any ETL tool such as DataStage or Informatica Power Center, BDM will be beneficial
  • Intermediate working knowledge of any data visualization tool (such as Power BI) will be advantageous
  • Exposure to AML is preferred
  • Experience in the Banking and Financial Services industry is preferred
  • Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills
