Construction Manager Wind & Solar Hybrid Power Projects
Job Summary
The Construction Manager is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, execution, and successful completion of utility-scale Wind and Solar Hybrid Power Projects. The role oversees civil, mechanical, electrical, transmission, and balance of plant (BoP) construction activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contractual, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
- Lead end-to-end construction activities for wind, solar PV, and hybrid power projects.
- Develop construction execution strategies, schedules, resource plans, and manpower deployment plans.
- Monitor project progress against approved baseline schedules and implement corrective actions or recovery plans where necessary.
- Coordinate engineering, procurement, logistics, construction, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Ensure timely achievement of project milestones and contractual obligations.
Civil Construction Management
- Oversee construction and installation of:
- Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) foundations
- Solar module mounting structure foundations
- Internal roads and access routes
- Crane hardstands and equipment foundations
- Control buildings and auxiliary facilities
- Switchyard civil works and drainage systems
- Ensure all civil works are executed in accordance with approved designs, specifications, and applicable standards.
Mechanical Construction Management
- Manage erection and installation of:
- Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs)
- Solar module mounting structures
- PV modules and tracker systems
- Inverters and transformers
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), where applicable
- Coordinate heavy lifting operations and critical crane activities while ensuring compliance with safety procedures.
Electrical Construction Management
- Supervise installation and commissioning of:
- HT & LT cable networks
- DC cable systems
- Earthing and lightning protection systems
- SCADA and communication systems
- Pooling substations and switchyards
- Transmission lines and grid interconnection facilities
- Coordinate electrical testing, energization, and grid synchronization activities.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Ensure strict compliance with company HSE policies, procedures, and statutory regulations.
- Promote and maintain a zero-incident safety culture across all project sites.
- Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Monitor permit-to-work systems and implementation of safety controls.
- Lead incident investigations and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions.
Quality Assurance & Quality Control
- Ensure construction activities comply with project specifications, approved drawings, and relevant industry standards.
- Review Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), quality records, and non-conformance reports.
- Coordinate inspections with clients, consultants, and third-party agencies.
- Drive continuous quality improvement and minimize project rework.
Contract & Commercial Management
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor performance against contractual obligations.
- Review work progress, bills, variation orders, and claims.
- Support procurement and subcontract management activities.
- Control construction costs and optimize resource utilization.
- Identify project risks and implement mitigation plans.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary construction interface with:
- Clients
- EPC contractors
- OEMs
- Consultants
- Government authorities
- Utility companies
- Local communities
- Participate in project review meetings and present construction progress, risks, and mitigation plans.
Resource Management
- Lead multidisciplinary construction teams across various project locations.
- Supervise site engineers, supervisors, and contractor personnel.
- Plan and manage manpower, equipment, and material requirements.
- Improve productivity through effective planning, coordination, and workforce management.
Testing & Commissioning Support
- Coordinate pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
- Support grid synchronization of wind turbines and solar PV systems.
- Ensure closure of punch points prior to project handover.
- Participate in performance guarantee and reliability tests.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare and review:
- Daily Progress Reports (DPRs)
- Weekly and Monthly Progress Reports
- HSE Reports
- Quality Reports
- Cost and Budget Reports
- Construction Look-Ahead Plans
- Maintain accurate project records, documentation, and compliance reports.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Master's Degree in Engineering or Project Management preferred.
- PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent Project Management certification preferred.
- NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent HSE certification preferred.
Experience
- 1418 years of overall construction experience.
- Minimum 58 years of experience managing utility-scale renewable energy projects.
- Proven experience in:
- Wind farm construction
- Solar PV projects
- WindSolar hybrid renewable energy projects
- EPC project execution
- Grid substations and transmission lines
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple contractors and large multidisciplinary teams.
