Position Overview

As a Conflict Analyst on the Legal Team, you'll be responsible for conducting comprehensive research and analysis to identify and mitigate potential conflicts of interest. You will play a critical role in L.E.K.'s global risk management and new business intake function, helping the firm evaluate engagement risks and make informed business decisions across its global offices. You'll work closely with internal stakeholders, including Partners, consulting staff, and the legal team, to ensure compliance with firm policies and ethical standards. Your role is vital in the engagement acceptance process, ensuring the firm can ethically and legally engage with new clients and matters while balancing commercial objectives and risk management requirements.

Key Accountabilities
  • Perform thorough and timely conflict checks for new business opportunities, new hires, and new proposals.
  • Analyze search results from internal databases and external sources (e.g., public records, company filings, news articles) to identify potential conflicts.
  • Assess actual and potential conflicts of interest, independence concerns, contractual restrictions, and reputational risks.
  • Provide conflict clearance recommendations and document rationale for decisions in accordance with firm policies and legal guidance.
Contract Review and Interpretation
  • Review, analyze, and interpret Master Service Agreements (MSAs), engagement letters, and related contractual documents to identify provisions that may affect conflict clearance or engagement parameters.
  • Review and interpret confidentiality obligations and other client-specific contractual provisions that may impact engagement acceptance.
  • Flag issues promptly and elevate for additional legal and business review as needed.
New Business Intake & Matter Management
  • Support the end-to-end new business intake process, including reviewing engagement requests for completeness and accuracy.
  • Evaluate requests to amend or expand existing engagements and assess changes in project scope against previously approved matters.
  • Coordinate with engagement teams and stakeholders to facilitate timely completion of intake reviews and conflict clearances.
Database Management
  • Maintain and update the firm's conflict management system with accurate and detailed information including new clients and data.
  • Maintain accurate entity relationships, engagement records, and supporting documentation throughout the engagement lifecycle.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency within conflicts and intake processes.
Due Diligence and Research
  • Conduct in-depth research to establish corporate relationships and identify related parties to an engagement, interpreting complex information and spotting potential red flags.
  • Research and analyze parent‑subsidiary structures, affiliate relationships, portfolio company ownership, joint ventures, and other corporate relationships that may impact conflict assessments.
  • Utilize external research platforms such as Orbis, Dun & Bradstreet, Capital IQ, public filings, and regulatory databases to support conflict reviews and risk assessments.
Stakeholder Communication
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with partners and other stakeholders to report findings and provide actionable guidance on potential conflict issues.
  • Partner with stakeholders across global offices to resolve conflict‑related inquiries and support time‑sensitive business development opportunities.
  • Escalate complex or high‑risk matters to senior legal team members for review and resolution.
  • Exercise sound judgment in identifying matters requiring escalation and provide clear recommendations to facilitate decision‑making.
Policy and Procedure Adherence
  • Ensure all conflict checks and new business intake processes comply with the firm's policies, ethical guidelines, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the firm's conflict policies, confidentiality obligations, and risk management procedures.
  • Contribute to the continuous refinement of these procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Professional Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in conflict analysis, risk management, or client intake within a law firm, consulting firm, or other professional services environment.
  • Experience in a law firm, consulting firm, accounting firm, investment bank, private equity firm, or other professional services organization is preferred.
  • Working understanding of contract law and experience reviewing and interpreting MSAs and engagement letters in a professional services or legal environment.
  • Experience identifying contractual provisions related to confidentiality, exclusivity, conflicts of interest, and engagement restrictions is preferred.
  • Proficiency in conflict management software (e.g., "iManage", "Intapp Open", "Elite/3E") and external research databases (e.g., "Dun & Bradstreet", Orbis, or similar platforms).
  • Experience with new business intake and matter management systems is preferred.
  • Understanding and application of Boolean search logic and advanced research techniques preferred.
Key Competencies
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to assess complex corporate structures and business relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
