Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Community Management Associate based in India.

As a Community Management Associate, you will help shape the online presence of a globally recognized free-knowledge platform and connect with the next generation of digital audiences. You will contribute to community engagement, social media storytelling, and brand voice development across major digital channels. From creating engaging content to responding to trending conversations, you will help foster meaningful interactions and strengthen audience relationships. You will also highlight inspiring stories from a worldwide volunteer community and explore new ways to increase engagement. Working within a collaborative, remote-first communications team, you will combine creativity with data-driven insights to refine social media strategies. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about internet culture, digital communities, and making knowledge more accessible to everyone.

Accountabilities
  • Support daily social media engagement by writing compelling copy, managing comment sections, and participating in real-time conversations around relevant cultural moments and emerging trends.

  • Contribute to the development and documentation of community management playbooks, moderation protocols, response guidelines, and brand tone-of-voice standards.

  • Identify, develop, and share compelling stories from a global volunteer community to highlight contributions and encourage audience participation.

  • Monitor emerging trends in short‑form video, including TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, and recommend creative opportunities to increase reach and engagement.

  • Explore and test social listening, moderation, and community management tools to improve response times and strengthen online interactions.

  • Track channel activity, monitor audience sentiment, and review engagement metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Assist with monthly social media performance reports and use insights to refine communication strategies.

  • Participate in creative experimentation by testing different messaging styles, formats, and engagement approaches to understand what resonates with audiences.

  • Collaborate with communications colleagues and distributed teams to maintain consistent, inclusive, and engaging online experiences across platforms.

Requirements
  • Between 1 and 3 years of hands‑on experience in social media execution, community management, digital communications, or digital storytelling.

  • Strong familiarity with online culture, emerging digital trends, and short‑form video platforms, particularly TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.

  • Demonstrated writing skills, with experience creating social media copy, engaging with audiences in comment sections, or moderating online communities.

  • Familiarity with social media management, analytics, moderation, or social listening tools.

  • Strong judgment and emotional intelligence, with the ability to handle sensitive conversations professionally, recognize potential risks, and elevate issues when appropriate.

  • Awareness of cultural differences and the ability to communicate thoughtfully with diverse audiences across global communities.

  • An interest in interpreting basic analytics and audience insights to improve engagement strategies and content performance.

  • Excellent organizational skills and an interest in developing structured guidelines, response frameworks, and repeatable community management processes.

  • A collaborative mindset, intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and enthusiasm for internet culture and digital storytelling.

  • A genuine commitment to free knowledge, open access to information, and the value of community‑driven contributions.

  • Ability to work effectively with remote colleagues across different time zones and adapt to evolving priorities.

  • Candidates based in India are eligible to be considered, provided they have current work authorization in their country of residence. The role's preferred working time zones are UTC−8 to UTC−5, so candidates should be comfortable with the associated cross‑time‑zone collaboration requirements.

Benefits
  • Remote‑first work environment: Join a distributed organization with team members and contractors across more than 40 countries.

  • Competitive compensation: Salary is adjusted according to the country of hire, location, skills, and professional experience.

  • Location‑based salary structure: Compensation for applicants outside the United States is determined according to the applicable local pay range. The specific salary range for India has not been provided.

  • Inclusive workplace: Work in an environment that values diversity, equity, accessibility, and equal employment opportunities.

  • Meaningful mission: Contribute to expanding access to free knowledge and supporting a global community of contributors.

  • Collaborative culture: Work with an international communications team in a remote‑first environment that encourages creativity, learning, and experimentation.
